We own eight of them. You need the ant guards (not included) to keep the ants out. I found these a less expensive by shopping around for them on line. The only drawback is you cannot buy replacement bottoms for them. I checked in case we needed one. They provide a good foot rest for the bird and gives them a chance to rest while drinking and you get a better view of each bird. They are sturdy. I recommend them but shop around for a better price. End of season they were 13.95

Absolute junk! The bottom rusts and the red glass is just painted on so it flaks off. Supper dangerous to sensitive hummingbirds. I wish I never purchased this!

I am heartbroken to have to post this review, but I am hoping the maker, Pesky Pet, will fix it! This is my exact feeder (given as a housewarming gift) and the base is metal and RUSTS (and yes, I change the water often and I do NOT clean/scrub it with anything harsh). It RUSTS a lot – at the feeder entrance (where the birds drink) and especially under the insert in the base. When it started, I really cleaned it out carefully with a soft sponge and Qtip, and I have monitored it closely, but it is too dangerous for the precious hummingbirds.
These pictures are AFTER I tried to remove all the rust the last time. Sadly, it is a lovely and sturdy feeder with a tragic flaw. I hope Perky Pet changes the base or does something to make it rust-proof.

This feeder is a lousy product. I’ve had this feeder for less than two months and was alternating its use with an older feeder. The Perky Pet feeder is now useless. The “galvanized” metal in the sugar water chamber has rusted (hummingbirds don’t care for rusty sugar water), and the feeder leaks. I’ve tried tightening the feeder to varying degrees, but with the same leaky result. I’m originally from Lancaster County, PA so I wanted to support a business in Lititz. That was a mistake in this case.
