old man –
It’s compatible with my Korg tuner. The wire on the previous pickup broke at the connector.
The Professor –
I’ve used a lot of different tuning pickups including the Peterson TP-2. I’ve found other pickups have trouble picking up the resonate strings on my nyckelharpa so that the tuner will only display the pitch for a few seconds before going away. This is not a problem with the TP-3. For the nyckelharpa it is no problem fitting it on the bridge. For my violins it will fit on the bridge but just barely and it interferes with the bowing on the e or g string depending upon which side of the bridge you put it on. Not a problem though – I find it works just fine if I attach it to the scroll instead of the bridge. I also have a lÃ¥tfiol (a Swedish fiddle with four resonate strings) and the TP-3 will not fit on the bridge. Like the nyckelharpa resonate strings these are hard for other pickups to register but the TP-3 picks them up just fine when attached to the scroll. I have tried the TP-3 with both a Peterson StroboPlus HD and a Korg OT-120 and it performs well on both tuners. I see no reason to think it will not perform well with any other tuner that has a 1/4″ input.
Swedish grandma –
If your pickup goes bad frequently, this is the pickup for you. The webbing on the outside of the pickup protects the pickup from damage by pulling. The pickup is VERY long, which is both good and bad. In some cases, you want the room to move around, and know to adjust for length. However, I have caught my foot in the pickup while moving among my instruments, so I have shortened it by using the attached velcro. It leaves a bunch of velcro-ed lead, but it gives me a lot of flexibility. I LOVE the webbing, which makes the pickup more protected from damage, I have not had to replace this pickup since I bought it; about 2x the longevity of my previous pickups
Joel Kaye –
Check the pitch on anything you can clip it to that resonates. This along with my Peterson Stomp work great for acoustic or electric guitar. Not needed for an electric, but sometimes I want to tune up wall guitars without plugging in. I’m lazy. Worth the few bucks just to have around.
WARREN DE PAUL –
It’s a bit finicky at times, but if you pick with your thumb instead of a pick, the tuner settles in faster and it’s fine. Great addition for acoustic or classical, and of course the Strobe tuner is fine for plug in devices as-is.
Lawdawg –
Very handy little device for in-home practice to a limited degree. It picks up what you play very well, but it also picks up any sound to your instrument, such as the sound of your fingers impacting the fretboard, pick clicks, your hand brushing against the face, or the mic cord bumping against something. Very sensitive. Can be useful where a mic is impractical or won’t work. I use mine in conjunction with a Marshall guitar amp. Mine came with the cord badly kinked from packaging to the point I’m afraid of damaging it if I try to straighten it out.

I purchased two of these tuning pickups to use, first and foremost, with a Peterson VSII Virtual Strobe tuner and a new Peterson StroboPlus HD tuner. Not surprisingly, this study but extremely sensitive pickup works a treat with these portable, high-end tuners.
But Peterson also claims the TP-3 can be used with any other tuner, so I plugged it into a Korg Master MT1200 Multi Temperament Tuner and it only served to make this most accurate of tuners more so. This piezo pickup tuner made it possible to precisely tune different stringed with an unimagined accuracy in a variety of settings.
The TP-3 also made clear that none of the Snark or Intellitouch tuners were NOT as accurate as any of the Peterson tuners or, for that matter, any tuner that can accept a ¼-inch male plug.
This is a worthwhile investment for any musician who craves tuning precision to enhance his/her musicality.

Excellent price (as compared to a local physical storefront vendor)! The last one I bought there was $20 and barely fit around my piccolo, much less my flute. GREAT recommendation for a flute pickup! Most pickups are not tailored to fit a flute like this one. I was very pleased!
Note: Keep it in a bag if yours doesn’t come with one. I abuse my accessories and this is no exception (hence the re-purchase). Bend or twist the wire the wrong way and you’ve turned your pickup into an expensive wire to tie up sunflowers with. 🙂
EDIT (as of 04/23/12): Just wanted to add that this was purchased for $7.98 at the time, as it looks like this product could possibly go up and down in price. The max price of $15.95 as of today is still cheaper than my local music store, though.
On a side note, after continued faithful use of this pickup, I am still pleased! When the pickup is in use, my tuner only hears me, and that is a blessing for a flautist!
