We have prior models that have plug in capability, so I was looking for that again when one stopped working. Despite just having battery only for power, this mat works very well and the battery life appears to be better than expected. I like the counter feature that lets you know how many times your pet made contact with the mat. It has 3 shock settings which is good. My cats are large and one is resistant to negative reinforcement but even he is learning. I’m quite pleased with the product.

My husband doesn’t like dog hair. We have two short haired 50 lb dogs that. He finally got tired of brushing off the couch every time he wanted to watch TV, so I bought this. It works to keep the dogs off and my husband doesn’t have to brush the couch off anymore. We’ve used it about a month.
We have forgotten to pick it up for visitors or kids before… which was unfortunate. So make sure to warn people not to sit on it. But works great for the purpose.

Simple, effective, not cruel. I used this in my kitchen in front of my sink and counter. I have a very tall, very big (makes danes look short) ignorant dog that figured out he was tall enough to pillage and plunder my upper cabinets full of food. Also steals my kitchen sink plugs for some insane reason.
So, my kitchen is a U Shape. I laid the mat on the floor 2 feet from my sink. Basically creating a no go zone. Because the mat has a shock counter on it, i know day 1 he hit that thing 4x. Day 2 he hit it 2x. Day 3 nothing. Day 4 1x. Nothing since. He’s figured out thats a no zone. The mat has 4 settings. Chime only, low, med, high zap. I only have it on chime now and he’s still not having anything to do with the mat or my kitchen cupboards/sink plugs.
The highest setting more startles you in bare feet than it does actually shock. Like a static zap. Not anywhere near as powerful as a shock collar but the pads on dog feet are sensitive enough that it’s very effective. I would definitely say safe enough for cats as we have one of those too and he’s not going in the no zone either.
100% recommend for an easy, safe, effective way to train your pet to stay out of an area, off a couch, or like my other dog, getting close enough to the tv to knock it off the stand.

This works. My dog would get up on the couch overnight, no matter how close her bed was or how many times she was told off.

We bought a new lighter coloured couch and we had to do something more to stop her.
I bought 2 mats to cover the whole couch but didn’t really need a 2nd one because she made ONE attempt and tried just once more the next night, and then never again.

I love my girl and don’t want to hurt her, so we made sure we read the instructions properly and didn’t have it turned up high.

I’d recommend these for quick results. She seems to have forgotten that the couch was ever an option.

It doesn’t do what it suppose to do, my cat started to walk over it quickly to avoid the shock and sometimes jumping iver it for fun or annoying me I don’t know

My cats have their own room in my house when I am away and at night. I have a cat that is unhappy about being confined to a bedroom outfitted with cat trees and beds and an automatic feeder for her lunch. She was slowly destroying the bottom of that bedroom door and would wake me up in the middle of the night trying to dig her way out to make mischief in the rest of the house. Day one night one of this mat laid across the doorway opening and my door is now harassment free and her trying to break open the door is gone.
I expected the 9v battery to die pretty quickly but it has been over a month and the same battery is still in good charge

I’ve had Scatmats for years. One goes outside our bedroom door (along with a kiddie gate) to keep the cats out, since it’s my wife’s ‘clean room’. Well, a wire in that mat came out of the vinyl, broke, and stopped working.
So, I ordered this one. The module which attaches to the mat does not accept an external power adapter as the older ones did. That was a real disappointment, since we tend to step on the mat from time to time and I don’t see the 9v battery lasting too long. That was the case with the previous mat and module, so I used a 9v external power adapter instead of a battery. To replace the 9v battery in the new module, I have to detach the module from the mat, since the battery compartment is on the bottom. Bad design decision, IMHO. With the older one, I did not have to detach the module from the mat since access to the battery compartment was on the top (not the bottom) of the module.
I tried the module from the previous failed mat on the new mat, but it seems that the electrical characteristics of the new mat are different from the old mat; not much shock even on the highest setting. So, I estimate I’ll be replacing 9v batteries every 3-4 months. If it lasts 6 months as advertised, I’ll edit my review (see below).
Also, for my purpose, I would like to see a mat with embedded wires sturdy enough can handle light foot traffic for 3-5 years. I would pay 20% more for a more sturdy mat.
After these negatives, I still stand by the Scatmat as an effective deterrent to unwanted pet behaviors. Well…. at least until one of the full-grown cats realize that they can jump over both the Scatmat and the kiddie gate.
Update: It’s been 6 months since installation, and the 9v battery is still going strong!

Llegó muy bien empacado, con su instructivo. Se pone la batería de una manera muy sencilla y listo. Los coloqué sobre un sofá y problema resuelto, mis perros ya no se suben a el. Muy contenta con este producto

My Siamese cat Oslo has a Pica. For those who don’t know what that is, it is a strong compulsion and addiction to eating weird things. In Oslo’s case that means anything foam, latex or soft plastic. He also has a normal cat attraction to thin leaf structures, so soft pine or fir needles look somewhat interesting to him as they do to most cats. But last year, we finally splurged for a rather expensive 9-ft flocked tree. I always wanted a flocked tree, rather than a white-needle tree. The flocking – or artificial snow is essentially foam, and Oslo thought we bought him nine feet of kitty candy. He couldn’t stay away from the tree. Last year, we’d wrap the lower half of the tree with sheets – such a lovely holiday look (not!) and an ordeal we had not bargained for. And Oslo found his way underneath the sheets anyway, and munched away. We had a beautiful tree we had to cover up and barricade. What was the point of having it? We shuddered at the idea of buying a playpen type of corral fence to put around it. So this year, I bought a six-pack of these clear spikes (non-electric) scat mats because they were cheaper. They slid around, we’re not enough to secure the tree and knew I had a FAIL on my hands after I heard noise at 2 a.m. and walked out to see Oslo sitting on the “uncomfortable” deterrent, feasting away on a snowy lower limb. It was time for more drastic measures.! We bought one of these curved units and quickly saw it was not big enough, so we bit the bullet and ordered two more. You need three to go around a tree. Perhaps four if your tree is wide.
So, we paid $164.85 to protect a $600 tree. We really didn’t have a choice. We made the plunge for the tree, we wanted to enjoy it, and not have it be a source of stress and frequent nighttime and early morning cat vomit episodes, which would happen soon after his flocking feast. I am happy to say the tree has not been touched since it has been electrically surrounded. No training needed. There are no cat messes to clean up and we don’t have to wrap and unwrap our tree each evening. I strongly urge the manufacturers to consider making a large, extra large and jumbo sized tree skirt especially made for Christmas trees, maybe at a better price, as I see a lot of people get them for this reason. This deterrent works. But it is a very effective, albeit expensive solution. And it’s a lot better looking than bedsheets!
