This is a very compact but useful home DVD player. I wish the remote was slightly larger so that the buttons were easier to use, but the whole system is user friendly. A good quality and handy addition to my home system.

This died on me tonight. For no reason whatsoever it just stopped working. No power, whether using the remote or the on/off button on the device itself. I swapped out the audio/video cable with a different one to see if that might be the problem but it still wouldn’t work. I have had it for less than two months and I watched less than twenty films during that time…

I have edited my review. The paragraph above was part of my initial post and I kept it in because that information is still applicable regarding the device. However, I have edited my review because the seller contacted after I had posted my negative review and informed me that they offer a 1-year warranty. Subsequently, I was able to return the broken item and they replaced it. I was very surprised and very grateful for this. I cannot vouch for the quality of this brand of DVD player but I will definitely buy from the seller again. They were very helpful, interactive, and the replacement works fine (so far). The battery provided was dead but I used one of my own and the remote works fine as well. If this one dies on me quickly as well I will purchase a different model. Someone replied to my earlier review that Philips is a well known name brand in DVDs but I have never heard of it. Regardless, if this one lasts longer I will be very pleased.

Well, after a few hours of play, this unit still works. I’ve been looking at buying this unit for some time but hesitated because many reviewers complained that this unit failed shortly after purchase and some failed on the first day of play. But for me, it’s so far so good. It looks great– slim, sleek and compact. It looks like it’s worth more than the $40 I paid for it.

I was delighted to see that it could play the many DVD’s I bought overseas that I couldn’t play on my Sony because of region code and PAL/NTSC conversion problems. This thing plays them all! I was somewhat concerned that I had to do some programming to make it region-free, but it was region-free right out of the box– no programming required!

I also threw a few DIVX, MPG, AVI, and WMV files at it. It found and played the DIVX and MPG (MPEG-1 and 2) files fine but refused to play some AVI files and all of my WMV files. Also, it could not read some of my burned DVD’s, perhaps because of the Mac/PC hybrid file structure I chose to use. On the other hand, it seemed more tolerant of scratched or dirty DVD’s as it played my damaged DVD’s smoothly while my Sony refused to play them at all.

All in all, I’m quite happy with this little unit. Though it could not play WMV and some AVI files, it could play almost everything else. Response time in locating and playing video files was good– as good as if not better then my computer’s. The picture quality was excellent– just as good as my trusty old Sony. It provided sharp, progressive scan picture through its three component video outputs.

As far as its reliability– and this is my greatest concern with this unit– I can’t comment on that as I’ve had this for only one day. But in the day that I’ve used it, it worked very well. I’ll come back and report on its reliability in about 6 months from now. Until then, I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

Love it. Easy to use, and STILL working after a few months (unbelievable for stuff made in China normally!) But it looks like I have finally found an all region DVD player that ACTUALLY does what it’s supposed to do! Great price as well.

I puchased this to replace my old multi region dvd player. It does not read multi region disks. Only US region is viewable. Total bummer shame.

Pleaseeee look elsewhere for a dvd player. PLZ READ! Nevermind the “good” brand name”. This is absolute garbage quality. Spend up for a combo player if possible. This thing is beyond terrible. First off, I purchased as new and received an used product, so good luck with that. This has happened to me multiple times now, and it’s extremely frustrating and gross. The seal didn’t look right, so I knew off the bat that there was a good chance I got another used item for my hard earned money. The player had greasy finger and palm prints all over it. It was beat up and scratched. Pathetic to do this to paying customers.
Putting all of that aside, it is VERY loud and it skips OFTEN with a long lag time, even when I put a brand new dvd into it. I complained via chat and ended up getting a refund while being able to keep the item. I cleaned the heck out of it, then learned all of the above issues with its playability. I don’t even want this garbage as free. I’ll have to purchase a different one now. I have no clue how others would rate this above one star, even while receiving an actual new one. Don’t waste your hard earned money on this pathetic outsourced product. It left me very angry and having to go through the purchase and wait process again..

I can’t legitimately say that you get what you pay here since I have 2 Samsung Hi-Def DVD players that I bought in 2016/2017 for the same $$ that outperform this in terms of the on-screen interface and audio\video quality. This appealed to me initially because of its size for application (mostly as a CD player) and brand recognition. I did a side-by-side comparison of my 2016 Samsung and the Philips and the sound was considerably lower on the Philips and picture quality was very muddy. I ended up using my Sony DVP-SRD00H instead which I spent $70 for in 2018 and is only 2 inches wider than the Philips. Mind you I used high-quality RCA and HDMI with an NAD amplifier projecting on 4K UHD Samsung 55, so it wasn’t the equipment I was using. Anyhow, you can’t beat the size but if you have a discriminating ear and eye, be prepared for live with some compromise.

No lee todas las regiones y no permite en algunos casos cambiar el idioma. Con otro que tenía sí se podía.
