Amazing head unit. Double din touchscreen navigation unit fit seemlessly into my car. I coupled this with the satellite navigation module, usb extension, aux extension & backup camera. All of these components work flawlessly together. I paired my iPhone and apple car play did the rest. It’s such a breeze to navigate around the 5200’s menu system. Very intuitive controls and a plethora of options make this a major upgrade over my old flip out N3. If you’re looking for a great navigation unit that is very easy to use and looks fantastic then look no further.
Just one word of advice, if you haven’t installed this type of unit before especially if you are getting all the components then I would recommend professional installation.

Fantastic unit, audio quality is superb and my online retailer was very, very helpful. I took off one star only because of a goofy “feature” that to be fair, nearly all head units use, save my previous Jensen VX7022 (and similar models from Jensen). Insert a USB drive and the unit insists on indexing the contents of that drive, which can take a VERY long time. This “indexing” (Pioneer calls it “Format Read”) builds a database of every song file on the drive, and reads all song tag information, in order that you might be able to browse your music collection using criteria such as “artist”, “album”, “genre”, etc. I was perfectly happy simply playing song files directly out of folders (which basically were albums) on my Jensen unit, and since THAT head unit never did a file index, it began playing INSTANTLY. This unit has settings for its settings, but the one setting they (currently) do not have is a way to disable this insane and slow “Format Read”. Other than that, the unit is sublime! The one GREAT thing about its USB reading capability is that it reads the NTFS file system, which allows you to use memory larger than 64GB. To my knowledge, to date no other manufacturer is doing this. The down side is that it may take 20 minutes to “Format Read” such a card. Pioneer also uses what is very likely the FINEST navigation system available to date – it blows away Garmin, Magellan, Sygic, TomTom, and a few others (all of which I have used). When you are really in a situation and need to get around, Pioneer’s “Home” navigation system (nearly identical to “IGO Premium”, featured on my previous Jensen unit) will let you do things none of its competition has even THOUGHT OF YET. Seriously, if you intend to drive and use nav, save yourself some aggravation and just go with this – the more you push it, the more you will find it can do, and it makes using any other nav feel childish and weak by comparison. Coupled with the crazy good audio quality and almost insane amount of settings to tweak until things are just where you need them to be, the Pioneer head units are going to be very hard to beat indeed. If you are replacing a factory radio which also gave you a clock, nothing to fear, Pioneer thought this bit through and the unit, even if not playing music or navigating, will come up with a bare screen that still displays a clock by default. I have had my unit now a few weeks, and I am still finding cool stuff. NO head unit from any manufacturer has it completely nailed-down yet: you will always find little things that annoy the blazes out of you, but overall, the Pioneer units are hard to beat, and are worth a couple dollars more than their competitors because of what they provide.

I just had this unit professionally installed. I bought it because of all these rave reviews. I am generally satisfied, but there are a few things I don’t like.
I replaced a stock Scion Pioneer unit that my 2016 Scion iM came with.
Pros:
– Sound quality: excellent. To me it sounds better than many most “premium” Bose/JBL systems you find in cars these days. There are many adjustment options, such as EQ, timing alignment, every speaker can be adjusted for volume separately, including subwoofer
– iDatalink Maestro: I am happy that I can adjust many settings that were supposed to be used with OBDII scanner tool, such as door lock/unlock sequence, headlight timer and auto headlight sensitivity etc. Most cars now provide adjustment of these features built-into their trip computer and/or navigation unit. My car is not one of them.
– Display quality: sharp, bright.
– Features: it has GPS, 2 USB ports, video output, separate sub/4 channel 4-volt RCA’s
– Boot time: around 15 seconds, even faster if you were listening to FM station instead of USB flash drive.
– Exit signs on GPS screen: it is a neat feature that I do not have on my iPhone HERE app. It displays exit signs just as they look in real life.
Cons:
While these are subjective, I consider them important. These things may not bother other people.
– Screen is small: I honestly wish I would’ve gone with 4200NEX/4800BS instead and just used my phone for navigation. Some font is so small, it’s hard to read even for a guy who does not wear glasses at all.
– Screen is not as responsive: yes, 5200NEX has a very good screen, but it is far from iPhone touch screen sensitivity.
– The screen is too deep and plastic edges are too tall, so pushing some items on the screen gets complicated, especially items in corners (why did Pioneer design their screen/user interface that way?). It is annoying and could be dangerous if you need to take your eyes off the road to push a button properly.
– GPS boot time: horrible! It takes around 1-2 minutes to load/start your map. UI also looks cheesy/outdated compared to HERE maps on my iPhone. Map also lags when zooming in and out. I will just keep using my iPhone HERE app.
– Rearview camera does not work when in reverse: I have no idea what is wrong, I can turn it on manually from the unit, but it would not turn on when I use reverse gear. I will have to come back to troubleshoot it with my installer.
– Font is too small: I have good vision, but many things are hard to read.
– Terrible glitches: if you have long DJ mixes or recorded radio shows 1-2 hours long (I do have many of them), 5200nex will start playing from the beginning after you restart your engine, make/take phone call via bluetooth. This is extremely annoying.
Update: after using this unit for 3 days, I decided to return it and get 4200NEX/4800BS instead. I downgraded it to 3 stars, since these glitches are unacceptable!
