This box was just terrific, the quality, the look, the size, … it’s perfect for radio storage, battery storage… ammo storage, especially for paintball or airsoft, with four separate sections and the right approx height, 2000 paintballs in 4 bags of 500 fit perfectly in this thing. OR separate bags of 5000 airsoft BB’s. Amazing.

After looking at a lot of different moisture tight containers for filament storage, I ended up going with these. They’re relatively expensive compared to the more popular containers, and don’t hold as many spools, but worth it because unlike those popular cheap ones, these ACTUALLY SEAL. I’ve been using these for about a year now, and they work brilliantly. Each box is perfectly sized to hold four 1kg spools with a little room on the side for a desiccant box.

The problem with the common cheap “weathertight” boxes everyone uses is they all have a slight air gap in the seal along the long axis, because mold-shrink during manufacturing creates a slight bow on the long axis, and the only clasps are usually on the short axis. I looked over a bunch of different “weathertight” plastic bins at different stores, and literally every single container that was rectangular and had clasps only on the short sides had this problem. The larger the container, the worse the issue was. I can only speculate that most people who buy those aren’t actually inspecting them, and/or are ignoring such issues because they’re cheap.

This model of Plano container avoids that via it’s placement of the hinge and clasps. The lid seal is well clamped on all sides when closed, with no unclasped areas long enough for the plastic shrinking/bowing during manufacture to cause a gap. Even most other plastic ammo containers you can see here on Amazon have the design problem with clasps only in the middle of the short sides that makes me think they won’t actually be airtight.

The only flaw these containers have (for my use case) has been the problem others have mentioned with the clips popping off when weight is placed on the lid. This ONLY happens if the lid is lowered with the latches already in a down position, then left loosely closed without actually engaging the latches. This is because the bottom edge of the latches have a squared off profile that will sit flat atop the latch bar, instead of and outward swooping underside edge. If the latches are allowed to rest atop the bar, and weight is placed on the lid, the latches are pushed directly up, popping them off there hinges, instead of simply swinging outward like they would if there was a slant or curve to the underside edge.

As long as you remember to either close the latches, or manually swing them out just enough to clear the bar when keeping the lid loosely closed, this won’t happen. If the latches are actually closed, they won’t pop off, as nothing will be pushing them up (the bar will be above the hook instead of below. I’ve included a close up pic of the latch so you can hopefully see what I’m describing.

Since this flaw is easy to avoid, and this is literally the ONLY box of this size and form factor I could find that is actually properly designed to seal, short of massive overkill stuff like Pelican cases, I don’t consider it a big issue.

I bought these (10 of them) for ammo storage. When I got them, I was a little surprised that they were bigger than I expected. Each box holds a little over 2000 rounds of 9mm or .45 ammo in 50 rd boxes. Not sure how much loose ammo it would hold. The .45 weighed almost 100 lbs once full, but the box seems to be plenty sturdy to handle the weight if you can manage lugging it around. I use it for stationary storage so the weight doesn’t matter to me. The boxes are easily stackable except that I’m reluctant to stack more than three boxes just due to the weight that would be on the bottom box.
So far I have no complaints. The boxes seem very rugged for plastic storage containers and they are large enough to store a variety of gear. I ended up with extra boxes so I also use them for storing accessories like red dot sights, ear muffs, binoculars, etc.
I did not “test” the water resistance of the boxes but in all aspects of what I use them for I give them five stars because they exceeded my expectations in every way.

This is a good deal, I bought mine to use as a battery box for a pair of 50ah lithium batteries for my trolling motor and it’s perfect for the job.

the box is well made, sturdier than I expected at this price, and is designed to stack, the plastic dividers are pretty flimsy, they pop right out.

While the hinges seem very sturdy, the latches are, adequate, and it has slots for a lock that would keep the honest out.

The gasket seems well made, I’m not sure how well it would keep water out as is, but with a couple bungie straps around it it should be quite water resistant.

Interior measurements in the product description are pretty close, the guides for the dividers do interfere a bit but they could be removed easily with a chisel if need be.

Very well made and heavy duty but do not go by the dimensions for the measurements because it is not 18 and 3/4 of an inch high it’s maybe nine and a half.

I love this box for my airsoft needs, and is easy to transport! (stickers that I put on there are not included.)

    Transport ease of use:
This box definitely is easy to carry, with the integrated handles on the side, and a comfortable grip, anything can be transported with this.

    Opening and Closing:
Here are where I am a little weird about. When opening, it’s easy and simple. Just pull on the tabs on the side and lift. (sometimes the tabs snap off, but they can be put back on as shown in the video.) Closing the lid is a little weird, as the lid has a little bit of an offset from the bottom where it connects. This is not really an issue but can be annoying.

    “Waterproofness”:
I haven’t tested the ability to block water from getting in, but the lid has a rubber ring around the top, and seals to the bottom half.

    Size:
It is pretty large for the version that I got. There is more than enough space for me to store what I need, but make sure you measure your use case, as it looks smaller in the pictures.

    Value:
Absolutely great value. 30 bucks for a crate like this? Amazing price. I wish it did have more customization to it, and I believe you can modify it to your needs. I think this is a great box if you need to store anything at all and move it around.

Purchase six of these Plano organized crates for all my overland off-road gear for the bed of my truck. These Plano boxes are good durability have organized pockets as well as adjustable and removable inserts sealed down very good to keep water and dust out durable and stackable kept all of our gear in place clean and dry. Would definitely recommend if looking for a way to organize and keep your gear protected and clean, I was using camping gear but there’s ways to use. I would recommend them and will be buying some more.

Comes with removable, sliding walls. Set up to have 4 separated areas, but you can easily change to 2 areas if you wish. Strong walls yet light with carry handles and 2 latches.
