I’m familiar with most of this from the old UK 20 Golden Greats album, but there’s so much more clarity on these versions! In particular there’s a resonance and, dare I say, vulnerability to Frank’s voice that I haven’t heard before. I recommend the CD version, as there seem to be issues with the ridiculously overpriced vinyl set. As for some people’s complaints about the outtakes at the end, this is a quadruple album in old money so I think there’s room for them. And they are quite funny.

Capitol has issued a fantastic sounding compilation of tracks from Frank Sinatra’s stint there in the 50’s. Very well thought out song selection. The fidelity of the cds is the best I’ve heard from this period. I would highly recommend this compilation to new fans as well as those who’ve been collecting for years. I’ve been collecting Sinatra’s music since the early 1980’s. I started with the Columbia box The Voice: Frank Sinatra, the Columbia Years (1943–1952) (later getting the The Columbia Years 1943–1952: The Complete Recordings box), all the Capitol albums (including the singles compilation) as well as the The Complete Reprise Studio Recordings and The Song Is You (Tommy Dorsey years), The Complete Recordings Nineteen Thirty-Nine (Harry James & His Orchestra featuring Frank Sinatra). I’m a big fan of his work. Timeless music from a timeless artist.

Also in the promos for Hole in the Head , Frank the Rapper. A very good CD set. Anything less than 5 stars was a bit too critical, in my opinion.

Die Vinylausgabe ist zwar sehr schön aber es fehlen die näheren diskographischen Angaben völlig. Bei jedem Titel ist zwar das Jahr und der Arrangeur angegeben aber das war es auch schon. Es ist nicht mal erwähnt aus welchem Album die einzelnen Songs sind, geschweige denn irgendwelche Liner Notes. Die CD enthält ein 24-seitiges Booklet, Vinyl rein nichts!!! Die paar Fotos und Zitate kann man sich schenken. Bei dem Preis von 140 Euros ist das eine Frechheit. Das ist doch eine Ausgabe für Sammler aber die werden keine Freude haben.

This anniversary box set presents music from Sinatra’s best period, the Capitol years. The music is exceptional as always. I don’t think the movie trailers were needed. Additional songs would have been a better choice! Trying to lay the open package flat in order to read the information on the sleeves is very difficult. A slip case with 4 individual printed sleeves would have been much better! I still recommend this set for the fantastic music of Sinatra at his best! A reissue of THE CAPITOL YEARS 5lp set presented in a slipcase instead of a box, with a reprint of the original book would have been a better way to celebrate Sinatra’s Capitol years! Maybe someday!!! I gave 4 stars because of the less than perfect presentation of the set.
