I use this card in a dashcam that writes 3 simultaneous camera streams and tends to break a lot of brands of SD cards. The PNY Premier-X is one of the few that can withstand the punishment. It performs perfectly in a dashcam, and nearly as well as my gold standard, the Samsung Pro Plus, in a computer.
In a computer, the Samsung can maintain write speeds of 80MB/s (or even higher in select models of SD card readers), while the PNY mostly stays locked at 40MB/s, but will occasionally jump higher. For read speed, both cards will get 90MB/s in a typical reader and can hit much higher speeds in certain models. The Samsung 512GB cards actually hold 512GB, while second-tier brands usually skimp a bit; the PNY holds 495GB. While not on par with top-tier cards, the capacity and the write speed are both excellent for the price, and the card significantly outperforms its speed class ratings.
The dashcam calls for U3/V30 certification (which is a minimum 30MB/s guaranteed write speed) and this PNY exceeds that solidly. Realistically, the dashcam never gets above 6.7MB/s, but the thing that breaks lesser SD cards is actually the access time, not the sustained speed. I’ve had numerous other second-tier cards that can sustain 80MB/s write speeds if they are writing a single large file, but they choke with long delays when the write operation first starts, which causes the dashcam to malfunction. The PNY Premier-X consistently starts writing in less than 1 second, just like the Samsung cards do. That makes it work perfectly in a high-end dashcam that records 3 or more cameras at the same time.
