The book is very well organized following all the exam objectives. The material is explained clearly with references and lots of practice examples. Have not passed the exam yet, but I really like learning using this book.

One of the best Linux books by a country a mile. The logical flow of the material is immense. Had to read from cover to cover.

    The author doesn’t assume things.

Very easy to read content, well-explained concepts, and nice labs.

I recommend it to anyone interested in learning RHEL.

    The book is a 10/10.

  4. Bartley Henriques

Got a perfect 300 score using ONLY this book. I read it one time, cover to cover, did all the exercises and the 4 practice exams. The only thing I needed to brush up on was the file/directory ACLs, (getfacl, setfacl) and setgid/sticky bits with permission stuff. Tip if you get this book: Do all 4 of the practice exams until you can complete each task from memory without any doubt. If you can do that, you can pass the exam.

It covers well the objectives, offers practice exercises per topic/chapter and 4 very good practice exams. Highly recommended.

This book is superior to the Sander van Vugt book, IMO. This book has some grammatical mistakes here and there, but it does a great job at focusing in on what you need for the test, and gives many great CLI examples. The four practice exams, at the end of the book, are well thought out as well, which I cannot say for the Sander van Vugt book. Having bought and read both books, this one stands out as the better of the two, without a doubt (IMO).

I combined this book with Cloud Guru to study for the EX200. This book provided far deeper explanations. I’ve learned so much from this book (as someone that relatively recently started learning about system administration). I imagine that even the experienced can benefit from this one, as a lot of ground is covered in detail. This book will remain close to me for reference.

This is a great book overall. The information is easy to grasp and everything is in a good logical order.

I have to take a star away because some of the labs ask you to do something that was never taught or introduced in the book anywhere.

For example 1 lab is to enable line numbers in VIM which is never talked about or introduced and trying to learn how to do it without the internet’s help took forever.

A second example is resetting a lost root password. It asks to boot into emergency mode (which the chapter did go over) but also with SELinux disabled (the chapter did not go through).

If these issues can be fixed it’s a 6/5 book!

Edit: Totally forgot to update this. I passed the exam and can give some help. 1. Don’t forget the shebang in a script. My script worked but I got a 0 on the section and I have to assume it’s because I forgot about the shebang. 2. I got a 0 on the container section. Have absolutely no idea why. From my perspective, creating a persistent container, it was working completely fine ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ive gone through more Linux books than I care to admit. I can say that by far this book has made it easier for me to understand the material. I just love the way the author explains things. while reading, I get the feeling that he is not skimming over anything or assuming someone knows this or that, which is the feeling Ive gotten from other Linux books ive read.

    reasons I love this book
    -easy to read
    -thorough presentation of material
-end of chapter quizzes and exercises within the chapters
-awesome labs. I cant say enough good things about the labs.

The labs really reinforce the information. There are labs which are kind of walkthroughs where the steps are presented (in smaller font) and there are labs where the answer is not presented but touches on every topic discussed in the chapter.

    book is a 10/10

Passed with 300/300 using just this book. Read the entire book, did all of the exercises and did all four practice exams daily until I could do them from memory.
