The zipper on right side broke day 1. The left side is holding up OK so far. I bought keyed hard mounts for bags instead of using those bad zippers. The bags themselves are great and have plenty of room. They look good on my bike.

I just received these in the mail and was immediately impressed with how well made they are. For bags at this price, I was not expecting much. However, they exceeded my hopes. They are roomy, stylish, and the stitching is solid. I am installing mine on an ’02 Honda VTX 1800R; the shape looks great with the rear fender.
My only concern (and reason for 4 stars) is the fact the bags are not as rigid as I had hoped they would be. Since I am bolting them on with a SIMPLY bracket, I have had to reinforce them with a piece of plexi-glass on the inside of the bag. This seems to do the trick. If you are going to use them as throw-overs, they are great just the way they are. Another reviewer mentioned the way the bags open getting in the way with the seat. The inside lip of the bag had to be modified slightly to fit with the bracket. It could have gone on without the mod but then the height of the bag wouldn’t have looked as good with the bike. Everything considered, this is a great set of bags especially for the amazing price!

I wanted to let people know a few things about these bags before buying them. First, they’re huge! I thought I was getting bags that were maybe 3/4 this size. It was a welcome surprise, too. They aren’t too much on a medium-large cruiser. I have a 2003 Honda 750 ACE and right now they’re only attached with the included yoke, but I have the hardware to do the hard mount with the S4 quick disconnect system. I will write a review on that when I mount it.
The material is a nice thick vinyl-type product that has a leather-look. It doesn’t detract from a pretty bike. It will hold its shape, but not perfectly. These are not hard bags. The outside pockets are pretty useful for a rag, tool kit, or something not overwhelmingly valuable. That said, the lock on these are plastic. I will be replacing mine with metal locks. It isn’t waterproof, but pretty darn close. You could make it waterproof on your own with some oil or spray-on stuff for shoes. It would add to the shine, too. The other disadvantage is one you should know before you buy; the look is not for every bike. It is beautiful on mine and works with the style I have and the lines of my bike, but they would not work on every bike. Photoshop a pic of it onto your bike before you buy bags you haven’t seen in person. That’s what I did with about 12 different bags.
Now for the good stuff: storage and function. Each bag holds 3 1-gallon jugs of milk. I was using milk jugs to gauge my saddlebag choice when searching and I was hoping I could do two each. My last set couldn’t do one each. I fit half a shopping cart of groceries in these! And they don’t look overwhelming on the bike, either. When at autozone, a guy asked what make of shadow it was because he had one that looked similar, but that mine looked so much bigge than his. Mine is a 750. His is an 1100.
I like the folding forward opening of the bags. And they realized this opening would sacrifice the shape of the bag, so Saddlemen incorporated a double zipper flap under the main openin that keeps shape. Good design. There are mesh pockets that I use to hold registration, insurance, etc. very useful. The plastic lock mentioned earlier is more of a deterrent than a security feature, but it does hold the top down well at highway speeds.
For the money, I couldn’t find a better bag. Be ready for awesomeness!

They look decent and I’ve gotten a few compliments but over time they don’t hold shape very well and the zippers become hard to close with the distorted shape. They’re fairly big bags and hold enough for a weekend getaway. They hold up through the rain but have never been caught in a downpour. I wouldn’t buy them again, especially for the quality vs. price.

I like these bags and it’s were big enough to carry everything you needs. But the zip cannot hold the weight. Mine was broken and luckily the bags not fell off during the ride. Need to buy a sturdy Holder rather than the original bag straps.

I bought these to replace my drifter bags because I wanted something larger. I’m very happy with these bags and the amount of storage they provide. The shape matches the curve on the rear fender of my vstar 1100 which is a plus. They look sharp and are of the same quality as I have come to expect from saddlemen, I added the quick disconnect kit to give them a cleaner look and to be able to remove them easily for cleaning the bags and the bike. I’ve ridden through a couple of good down pours and didn’t notice any moisture getting into the bags. The only negative thing I would say about the bags is the mesh pocket that is close to the zippers on top. It has a tendancy to get caught in the zipper. I think it’s just a matter of time before I rip it, but I rarely use the pocket anyway.

Great looking saddlebags, great size for my big bike, and very well built, my only issue is that they are throwovers, gonna hard mount them with easy brackets and update this review when i start using them.

Ive been actively using these since late may, and despite mostly riding weekends, taking care of the leather and not overloading them they are already loosing their shape, still think they are great looking bags for my vulcan 2000 but gonna go replace them with hard bags next season. I wrongly believed this were rigid mount they are not, and im not a fan of throwever bags after this experience.
Update 9-22-15
So i carry in one bag, a hoody or vest and my charger, in the other i carry mouthwash, toithbrush, extra t shirt, sanitizer, etc, very light stuff, yet the lock clasps have come spart, the bags are warped(not from heat) and the zipper is broke. I take could care of my bike so this shouldnt be happening, definately avoiding saddleman products in the future.
