Samson Q2U USB/XLR Dynamic Mic Recording Pack Description
- Best of both worlds: professional handheld dynamic microphone with USB digital output for connecting to a computer and XLR analog output for connecting to a mixer, audio interface or portable PA system
- Sound your best: dynamic microphone capsule with a cardioid pickup pattern captures sound from in front of the microphone and less from the side and rear, minimizing ambient sounds and other room noises for podcasting, home recording or voiceover work. It also reduces possible feedback in live performance settings
- Hear the mix: onboard 1/8″ (3. 5mm) headphone jack allows for zero-latency monitoring, so you can hear yourself without any delay or echo, plus a mix of your computer audio playback. Solid, die-cast construction with heavy gauge mesh grille
- Start Recording: The Q2U is a plug-and-play device, meaning it doesnโt need any special drivers to work with your computer. Just connect the microphone to your computer, launch your favorite audio software, and start recording.
- Itโs All in the Box: The Q2U Recording and Podcasting Pack includes everything you need to start recording great sounding projects: an extended desktop stand with mic clip that positions the microphone close to the sound source, a pop-filter for reducing p-pops, and USB and XLR cables.

I use this microphone to record and it sounds well. This mic is a good option overall for me because:
A) Its a Good Price
B) I can use USB or Xlr it very versatile. (I can use this same mic in the future when i buy me an audio interface)
C) Sounds Great and you can always fine tune audio with EQ and Compressors in a DAW like audacity.
D) Feels slightly heavy, very stable, and easy to setup.
Now for the Flaws:
A) The audio jack on the mic produce good sounds but if you use a 3.5mm jack like apple earphones it will slide out.
B) Their is a constant hiss sound when headphones are connected to mic even if the mic is muted. (Maybe this will change when using xlr and an audio interface)
C) Does pickup background noise.

Bought this mic at the recommendation of an audio engineer on YouTube in 2019. It’s lasted for 5 years and I recommend it to everyone. I get a lot of compliments on sound quality.

I was looking around for a mic and this one was recommended from one of the reviews. This is a dynamic mic which is perfect because sometimes I’ll have things going on in the background and don’t want those little noises being picked up as easily. Though, the mic is still sensitive and will still pickup some background noises, it’s not as sensitive as a condenser mic. I do have a higher pitched voice when I hear myself on video but for some reason this mic makes me sound like me. It’s makes my voice sound deeper and fuller. It’s worked well for me, so I would highly recommend this if you’re looking for a dynamic mic.

XLR + USB : hyper pratique.

I purchased this microphone because Iโm starting my own business off recording voice in audiobooks and it was the best I found for the price. Iโve done a couple of projects already, and I love the quality of the sound. Recommend it!

It has that “rich, podcasty” sound, but isn’t as “dynamic” as I had really expected. It picks up keyboard and mouse clicks, but that can be easily fix with some noise suppresions (I don’t think any mic is truly perfect like that). It’s also extremely easy to set up. Just connect the USB cable and you’re good to go. Very good product and quality for a price like this. Would definitely reccomend!

I have used this for streams, recordings, and Foley work. This mic is decent in an acoustically suitable environment.
The cardioid polar pattern is nice. It picks up my voice and disregards other sounds that are in its dead zone. The only variable I had to account for was subtle background noise, like an oscillating fan, or keyboard clicks that bled in whenever my voice was being picked up. This was an easy fix by using some effects to alleviate unwanted variables. (i.e. Noise Suppression)
The cover for the head that is supposed to help with plosives (annunciations that can โpopโ in the listeners ears) works okay. If I were recording for money, I would want a pop filter and better equipment.
The equipment is lightweight, the stand is stable, and it stores easy!
If youโre looking for a beginner, low-budget mic, I recommend this one. Iโve had it for years and itโs still working well!

I purchased this in late June 2021 and this review is being written in late May 2023.
This microphone was recommended to me by a number of different reviewers, and I am very happy with my purchase. I highly recommend checking out the review of it by Podcastage on YouTube for a nice look into how it sounds with various testing methods.
Some things to know: this is a dynamic microphone, so the source of sound needs to be close to it, and the polar pattern and sensitivity of it is such that you only really get clear, crisp audio speaking directly into the front/top of the microphone.
It comes with a short tripod stand, but I find it awkward on my desk due to my USB drawing tablet. If not for that it would fit okay, but might still be a bit too low. However, the clamp on the stand (secured with a Phillips head screw) is quite loose on mine. It’s a bit of a hassle to get it to stay put outside of its maximum range of motion, and is prone to drooping forwards or backwards depending on how it’s positioned (i.e. wherever most of the downwards force is distributed relative to where the clamp is). Inserting the microphone into the stand is simple.
USB and XLR connectivity make it extremely convenient for most people while also offering an opportunity to improve the quality alongside of your hardware.
Some people cite issues with the device being recognized or detected on their PC. I have not experienced this, but I’ve heard it from two people that I know personally to some extent, so that’s a fair warning. I’m not sure if that’s an issue with the product, an incompatibility with the setup, or some other such thing, but I think it’s a relevant issue to be concerned about.
Honestly, outside of the flimsy stand, I don’t really have any issues with this product. In fact, I think it’s a superb purchase for anybody looking for a quality microphone so long as they understand what they’re getting into with dynamic vs. condenser microphones and all of that jazz. I’ve had no issues with it that I can remember in the time since I’ve bought it, and I use it very regularly. I’ve even dropped it a few times and it still works perfectly fine with no cosmetic damage either. I will say though, if you’re willing to go past ~$120.00 or so, your options open up a lot and I think you can get a better product dollar-for-dollar. At its price point though, I think this is an excellent product.

Hands down, this is definitely the best microphone I’ve ever found to use with Dragon NaturallySpeaking dictation software. It works much better, for example, than the more expensive Blue Yeti for dictation. ( The Yeti, despite all of its marketing hype, introduces a lot of background noise which causes Dragon naturally to produce frequent error messages “low microphone sound quality”). By contrast, this less expensive (!) Q2U is extremely directional, which completely reduces all background noise and results in super quick, super accurate transcription when using Dragon NaturallySpeaking software. It is a pure joy to use this microphone for dictation, since I never have to correct words, and the software gets the words right the first time. Much better than the Yeti for this purpose. Keep in mind that in dictation the position of your mouth is all important. Using this microphone, your mouth should be no more than 3 inches away from the microphone, and you should be speaking directly into it. Then you will get perfect dictation quality. So glad I found this microphone!

As a new podcaster, I was recommended this mic. It has been easy for this Gramma to use and I am pleased with how it picks up my voice, but filters out *most* of the surrounding din. Now, if I could just get the grandkids to be a bit quieter when I record…..
