Once I installed stick, I followed the easy on-screen prompting and was ready to play within 5MiN!
I bought this during their sale price and it was totally worth it. It is a steep price for just being 1TB but the reading speed, according to the console, is 7.5GB/s. Thatโs fast!
Overall, if youโre not familiar on how to install a heat sink or gel, itโs best to buy the one that plug & play.
**UPDATE** I have been playing a few games for sometime now and I have to say it hasnโt skipped a beat. Extremely fast load times!
I discovered a cool feature that I didnโt know the PS5 had. You can set the console to download ps5 games to the main drive or the extended drive while the ps4 games could be installed on the opposite drive. Cool way to keep your games organized. Should you choose to upgrade the stick to a 2TB youโll know exactly what games are in the memory stick. Anyways, totally worth it.

I purchased the Samsung 980 Pro NVMe SSD and installed it in my desktop computer to replace an older and smaller SSD that was holding my Windows 10 operating system. The unit arrived quickly, undamaged, in new, pristine packaging. Installation was a snap on my MSI B550 Mag Tomahawk motherboard. I flashed the mobo bios to insure the latest updates, though it wasn’t necessary in my case. The drive was recognized immediately by Windows. The included Samsung Magician software was a breeze to use and quickly migrated my operating system and data to the new SSD. That was 3 weeks ago, and my system is running flawlessly.
This drive is FAST. Using CrystalDiskmark, my original Samsung 256Gb SSD spec’ed out at 554 Mb/sec Read, 530 Mb/sec write speeds. The new drive registers 3510 Mb/sec read, 3524 Mb/sec write speeds. Keep in mind, that is only at PCIe Gen 3, because my motherboard doesn’t support Gen 4 (which this SSD does). When I upgrade my motherboard to a newer version that supports Gen 4, I fully expect those speeds to double. Win 10 loads quickly and seamlessly, and overall operation of my machine has been flawless. I do a lot of gaming, and I intend to migrate my game installs to this drive in the near future. I’ll update this review if I notice any significant changes.
I paid $99 for this drive in April, 2024, and I consider it money well spent. I have 4x the storage space on my system drive now, and it’s much faster. If you’re considering purchasing this drive, I don’t think you will go wrong. One additional note: The drive I purchased has an installed heatsink, so I was unable to install the heatsink that came with my motherboard. Not a big deal, the installed heatsink works well and the system stays cool. If your motherboard has an installed M.2 heatsink, purchase the version without heatsink.

Note that you should heck the manufacturer date on these drives to see if it’s worth installing the drive into a desktop m.2 slot and ensuring it’s running the latest firmware. Mine had a 2024 manufacture date and posted ~6500 speeds in the PS5 so I’m relatively sure the drive is already updated. Otherwise it’s a great product, and I’ve owned now 4 different Samsung 900-series EVO M.2s and have had a perfect zero-failure experience. That’s all I really want from a drive, be reliable, fast, and decent value for the money.

If you have multiple drives and transfer lots of large files ( video) then these run cooler for longer with a lot less throttling back of transfer speeds. Highly recommended.

Day 1, I havenโt noticed any temperature or quality issues, but boy is it quick. Love the boot and load times on this thing. Not the fastest Iโve ever used, but itโs as fast as advertised.
