Recently I purchased two 500G SSD drives in order to create more reliable back ups for my two computers. My objectives included reasonable price, reliable brands, and USB C connections. The two drives were:

    SanDisk 500GB Extreme Portable SSD – Up to 1050MB/s – USB-C, USB 3.2 Gen 2

SAMSUNG T7 Portable SSD 500GB – Up to 1050MB/s – USB 3.2 External Solid State Drive

The Sandisk was used for creating a time machine back up on my Imac; late 2017 vintage, Intel Core i5-7400, 7th Generation, 16G RAM, 500G SSD with Thunderbolt 3 ports. The Sandisk came nicely packaged. It is very small and the opening through the back of the drive makes it easy to “hang” on the back of the imac so that it is out of the way.

The Samsung was used for backing up a new HP Pavillion, Intel Core i7-1165G7 11th Generation, 16G RAM and 500G SSD hard drive with Super Speed USB A and Super Speed USB C ports. The Samsung was beautifully packaged, similar to what you might expect from an Apple product. It was also very small but slightly larger than the Sandisk.

The Sandisk was able to do a 129G time machine backup in 40 minutes on the mac. It became noticeably warm but performed flawlessly when connected via its USB C output to the Mac’s thunderbolt input….3.3G/minute

The Samsung was able to do a 229G file transfer in 60 minutes from the HP. This was accomplished using a right click and then the “send to” command. It became very warm but performed flawlessly when connected by it’s USB C output to the HP USB C input….3.8G/minute

Although neither drive performed anywhere near their rated speed, they were much faster than the conventional HDD drives I own and light years faster than thumb drives.

I would give both drives two thumbs up. I prefer the Sandisk for the Mac because of the ability to easily hang it off the back. As for the Samsung, it is so nice looking and feels so good and is so nicely packaged that you would probably prefer this drive if it is going to be setting out and visible all the time. Realistically, you wouldn’t go wrong with it either. Highly Recommended.

I bought this as supplemental storage for my low-capacity Macbook. I was worried that it might be too inconvenient to use, but I’ve been very impressed.

Performance: Excellent. It gets the advertised speeds and I don’t notice any slowdown when using it compared to my internal SSD.

Form factor: WAY smaller and lighter than I expected, in a good way. Its profile is scarcely larger than a credit card, and it’s slightly thinner than a Bic pen. It’s just big and sturdy enough that you won’t easily lose it, but small and discrete enough to slip into a bag or sleeve easily.

Encryption: I think that any mobile hardware with personal data on it should be encrypted. I was planning to encrypt the drive using third-party tools, but realized after buying that it has its own encryption hardware built in. The official app for decrypting the drive is super easy to use, and since it’s all handled on the SSD itself, there’s no extra overhead and minimal performance impact.

If you’re looking for an SSD that will see moderate daily use, this is easily the one to get.

As someone who works with a lot of digital files, I recently purchased a small SSD portable hard drive, and I have to say it’s been a game-changer. Here are the reasons why I give it a five-star review:

    1. Portability: The small size of this SSD portable hard drive is its best feature. It’s incredibly portable and can fit in my pocket, making it easy to take with me wherever I go.

    2. Speed: The SSD technology in this hard drive makes it incredibly fast. It has reduced the time it takes to transfer files, which has increased my productivity.

    3. Capacity: Despite its small size, this hard drive has a large capacity. It can store all of my essential files, including photos, videos, and documents.

    4. Durability: The hard drive is made with high-quality materials, and its solid-state design means that it’s more durable than traditional hard drives. I’m confident that my data is safe, even if I accidentally drop it.

    5. Ease of Use: The hard drive is straightforward to use. It doesn’t require any additional power or software, and it’s compatible with both Mac and PC.

Overall, I highly recommend this small SSD portable hard drive to anyone who needs to store and transfer digital files. Its portability, speed, capacity, durability, and ease of use make it an excellent addition to any digital toolkit. I give it a solid five-star review!

This Samsung 1 TB SSD works flawlessly and is being used as an external bootable drive to test the Mac beta (15.0) operating system. This is my second Samsung SSD external drive. The first was a 2 TB drive that I bought for backups over a year ago and is still going strong.

These SSD drives are small, really fast, run cool, and are easy to format. The drives come with both USB-A and USB-C cables, are powered through the USB port, and have a small blue LED indicator light when being accessed.

While a bit pricey compared to mechanical drives, if you need speed, reliability, and storage capacity in a small package, then these are the drives for you.
