Used this on my 2003 90 hp 2 stroke Yamaha outboard.
Long story short, my motor started spitting and sputtering last weekend…..conking out. It would start fine…run well for about 30-60 seconds…and then spit/sputter/stall. I’ve had this motor for about a year and a half, and it’s always ran pretty well. We checked the carb bowls, fuel pump, separator, filter….everything looked to be working as it should…..plugs didn’t look too bad…..I put new plugs on anyway…..didn’t do anything.
At this point, I’m thinking I’m going to have to clean carbs……jumped on youtube…..found some videos of this stuff.
Most of the videos I watched and threads that I read said to mix either 3/4 gallon or a full gallon of gas and a can of this stuff. I had between 1.5 and 2 gallons in a 3 gallon can…..added 2 bottles of this……ran it on the hose for about 15-20 minutes…..didn’t seem to do much. I didn’t give it a whole lot of throttle….just enough to keep it from sputtering out….let it sit for 15 minutes….ran another 15 minutes……no difference whatsoever.
The next day, I took the boat out on the water….ran it at mostly full throttle for about 10 minutes….stopped….dropped it down to idle and it was much much much better……idled strong for a minute or two but did eventually stall…..but at this point, it’s obviously working……..ran it hard for another 10 minutes…..stopped……and it purred like a kitten.
Whatever was in there was blown out in a matter of 20 minutes. Most of it was gone in the first 10.
I think I accidentally found a good way to do it. Mix up 2 gallons of gas with 2 cans of sea foam….run it on a hose for 15-20 minutes….let it sit for 15……run it for 15…..let it sit overnight. Take it out and run the rest of the gas out at full/mostly full throttle.
It works. It’s legit. If you suspect a carb issue…..even if you don’t suspect one and would like the piece of mind of simply cleaning it…..this stuff is legit. I thought my motor ran strong before…..and it wasn’t. Sometimes you don’t realize how poorly something is running until you hear it improved. This was very eye opening. I bought a case and plan to dump it in every motor I have.

What a great product!
I had read about Seafoam and decided to try it out. I’ve got a 1999 Mercury Villager with over 160,000 miles on it. It already ran quite well, but I thought I could feel it idling just a bit rougher. I warmed my car up and disconnected the vacuum line to the break booster–since it feeds into all six cylinders. I let that vacuum line slurp up about a third of the can. That’s when I started seeing the smoke–but it wasn’t the smell of gas burning rich or of oil or coolant–it was the smell of carbon deposits! I added another third of the can to the fuel tank and the last third to the crank case. I waited about an hour–and by this time it was dark, so all the smoke I was about to make wouldn’t look too conspicuous.
I fired up my Villager–it took just a second longer than normal to start since it had been flooded with Seafoam. I hopped on a main road where the speed limit was 50, and I hit the gas. The accelerator was much more responsive than it had been before! The sound of the engine was delightful. The car seemed to accelerate noticeably better than before. The van has a digital fuel economy reading on the display, and I noticed that I was getting better mileage than normal on that stretch of road–I usually pay meticulous attention to my fuel economy. Even when I went the opposite direction, my mileage was still terrific, so I knew it wasn’t wind conditions that improved my mileage in one direction. I got on the freeway and noticed the same thing. Even when the wind was blowing against me, I got great mileage–perhaps 4 or so mpg better than before. That’s pretty sweet for a can of stuff costing between 6 and 7 dollars. I pulled into my driveway after my joyride and put my van in park–and I noticed how smooth my idle was. I thought maybe my mind was just playing tricks on me, so I opened my door with the engine still running–the engine was noticeably quieter! Just a smooth, constant, quiet sound–maybe the way the engine sounded 100,000 miles ago or so.
I am so impressed with this product! I’m going to change my oil in 100 miles or so. Then I’m going to try this stuff on our “new” 1995 Dodge Ram van with a 5.9L V8 Magnum that my wife and I picked up for $900 a couple of weeks ago. It hadn’t been driven in a couple of years, so the gas was old, and the engine pings a lot and struggles to fire up. Once I see how the Seafoam does on that van, I’ll try to update my review. But so far, so AMAZING!

I had a generator that despite running it out of gas after each use developed some gum in the carb. I pulled in apart 3 separate times to clean it. The generator would have to be adjusted at startup and then readjusted after running for about an hour. Based on other reviews I tried this and the generator ran great during the last outage (I had started it and ran it with the Sea Foam before the storm so it needed no start up adjustment). Bottom line is the generator worked as if it was new.
The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is I tried it in a snow blower that was also acting up only running on high idle. It’s one of those carbs that lacks adjustments, so I’m hoping at a couple of tankfuls might help it too. Unlike the generator, a simple 10 minute run with the Sea Foam hasn’t helped it much. But frankly I’d give this stuff a try before you take your equipment somewhere for work if you suspect you had some bad gas or gummed up carb.
This is made by the Stabil folks so not sure what the differences are between this and Stabil but I’ve used Stabil for years and it will not clean a gummed carb like this stuff did, and this stuff is supposed to stabilize the gas too so I may try it as my stabilizer in the future.

I absolutely LOVE using sea foam. My grandpa got me hooked on it and all his buddies at the car lot swear by it for high mileage cars, especially cars with over 100K miles. I put it in every two months – he puts a can in his Mercedes every other gas tank. This is such a good price. I highly recommend buying by the case as you won’t find a better price and you WILL use the product and see a difference in how your engine runs, gas mileage, and overall maintenance of your car. My last oil change, they said my Eclipse was in “outstanding condition” for having over 115K miles.
