While you can’t play PS5 games off this drive (PS5 games demand the internal SSD or an externally installed SSD that meets qualifications) its great for storing PS5 games that you don’t necessarily want to delete and reinstall later. Moving PS5 games from SSD’s take much less time than reinstalling them! You can also play PS4 specific games right off the hard drive! I put all my PS4 games on this drive and save the other SSDs for PS5 games.

I have a PS4, after plugging it in my system quickly registered the external hard drive and configured right to it. I immediately moved Genshin Impact to it(112GB) at the time. Haven’t had any issues with it so far( had it for about 4 months now).

When you run out of space on the PS4, you gotta get outside stuff, and Seagate doesn’t disappoint.

For quite some time I have found it necessary to purchase memory expansions for video game consoles. The Seagate Game Drive (2TB) for PS4 was a verry nice addition to my PS4 Pro. I had been using my PS4 for a lot of livestreaming/video recording. As a result, I had several video files that were on my PS4 that were taking up a lot of space. The Seagate Game Drive provided a lot of extra space that allowed me to continue recording and saving videos to my PS4 while still allowing me to have adequate space for applications as well as game save date. Additionally, when I connected the game drive I saw other improvements to my console (e.g., loading speed on games as well as the start up screen improved). My only complaint about this peripheral was that I could not save my videos to it. That is what I would have preferred to do but I was still able to free up a lot of space on the console memory by saving applications to the game drive instead. So, it accomplished it’s purpose quite well.

I just needed something to pull my screen records of my PS5. I have 2 generations of Elgato Game Captures, and now that PS5 has better native screen recording/streaming, I just need a good USB drive to take out the footage to edit. My Elgatos have been tossed into a cupboard somewhere. The only thing I still need is my Camlink 4k to link my DSLR to my comp for better quality footage, but that’s another product.

Writing a review after two years of owning it.
Bought this external storage device two months after owning my PS4 so I was able to play my large capacity games like GTA, COD, RDD, etc. It worked great! never had an issue with it making my PS4 slow or loading games too slow. I literally used this by letting it stay plugged in to my PS4, so if my PS4 was turned on, my external storage device was on and running. Now, I hardly used my PS4 compared to most people. Maybe played it here and there, but not an everyday thing. For awhile we did use our PS4 for DVDs, Streaming movies, TV, etc, so it was on for quite some time during 2020-2021.
Most of 2022 it worked great as well until – it didn’t.
Around August we started noticing this strange beating or clicking noise coming from it when the PS4 was on. At first we thought it was the PS4 but realized it was the hard drive. Then our games that were stored on the hard drive weren’t able to load. When we went to SETTINGS to view the Storage it was not showing up.
We would have to wait a few minutes for the PS4 to read the device, then we would get a message in the left hand corner saying External Storage not supported by PS4. We would go to the Settings to Devices to try to see the device, it would tell us it’s not formatted, but would show that device had 144,115.2 TB capacity. Because of this it wouldn’t allow us to format it. Now I am not sure why it broke after 2 years. Not sure if its cause we never unplugged it, or the fact that it only is made to last so long (heard this company doesn’t make great Hard Drives based off a Reddit – PS4 thread) Or if it was the fact my 11 month old daughter got a hold of it, possibly unplugged it while PS4 was on or maybe slammed it on the ground. What ever the case, I’m not stressed because I am not an avid gamer and do not mind replaying all my games.
I wanted to post this review due to the fact I haven’t seen many people talk about this issue. I could see how this could frustrate people who actually care about their progress being deleted or broken after all that time.
Please let me know if my review is helpful to you.
