Updated review after reading manual: this seems destined to be a shamefully weak device for the puported application. The manual tells me that:
• The only cigarette charger I can use is the one included (the manual also talks about charging a non-existent headset.
• The unit has to be stored at (get this!) temperatures between 15°C ~ 25°C (59°F ~ 77°F). So, you have to store it in the house, and you can’t use it when riding in cold or hot weather.
• You can’t use or store the device in dusty, dirty areas. How can this be suitable for outdoor use at all, I wonder?
• There’s a warning that, if stored in a cold area, when the device returns to room temperature, moisture can form inside the device and will damage electronic circuit boards. A ridiculous limitation IMO for a device purported for outdoor use.
• You can’t clean the device w/ any type of cleaner – I guess spit is OK?
One more star off for all these ridiculous constraints on use. This is the second Sena device I’ve bought and I wasn’t exactly blown away by the last one (internal battery lasted only two years). WHy did I buy this Freewire then? Because I hoped that technology had improved, everybody else swoons over Sena gear, and…..hope springs eternal. I’m pretty sure this will be the last of money Sena will ever see.
OOTB Review: I’m not overjoyed, but I haven’t actually completed the install yet – still waiting on the new helmet arriving. With a Sena BT in the new helmet, my tolerance of problems w/ connectivity is going to be low. The instructions in the box are nearly worthless. The downloaded manual is only slightly better. The fitment of the connecting cables is poor for my 2015 GW. The unit feels flimsy and doesn’t look waterproof. I haven’t pored over the first-grade reader manual in much detail yet, but can’t see any technical info on the 15 or so pages, about 10 of which feature BS you don’t need (such as info about the Harley version of the product, all the copyrights Sena holds, and misc. pish to fill out the page count. I’m worried, but only one star off so far.

Purchased the Freewire to use on 2004 Honda Goldwing. Did not like having to deal with the helmet cord. The Freewire has eliminated the helmet cord! Works very well so far!

Once I got the Sena Freewire installed on my 2014 Goldwing (which was very easy), I found that the documentation was a little lacking for troubleshooting (just a little). The sound that I was getting out the Freewire to the Sena 20S bluetooth headset that I paired it with was really hard to hear. Duh! Me, I forgot you need to turn the volume up on the Infotainment system on the Goldwing. Viola! It’s working. AND I LOVE IT!

I loved this piece of gear because it does work and I was finally able to sever the cord. It did take an effort by me to figure it out how to set it up so it worked the best but that’s no different than adding any other new piece of electronic equipment to my bike. The Sena 20 required a firmware update by downloading in from the Sena WEB page. This is something that had to be done for all of the electronic equipment, by any company, I have purchased from like my Gamin GPSs as an example. Companies are upgrading their software all the time.
Being Bluetooth it can be a challenge syncing which has driven me crazy at times to but it wasn’t too bad. I did search the WEB and YouTube to see what other riders experiences were in setting it up and got some great tips. One was it’s best to have the Freewire mounted in the open rather than stuffing it in the left compartment. The Freewire is not “waterproof” which means it shouldn’t be submerged in water but it is safe in the rain.
The instructions that come with the Freewire is pretty basic and some find fault with that but I think it would be very difficult to give instructions to all the possible ways it can be hooked up and to what equipment you. Everyone’s equipment is different so it would be quite difficult to give instructions to every possible configuration.
The one aspect that was found very frustrating was the Freewire 5-pin connector to the Goldwing 5-pin connector is exceptionally tight. In fact it’s way too tight and take a great deal of effort to connect them and then have them stay connected. Just be careful not to break any pins when putting this connector together.

Poor sound quality from Bluetooth bike electronics thru blue tooth sounds scratchy from iPhone sounds awesome very disappointed and I bought 2 one for both riders very disappointed
