Not all Sharks are created equal! Our previous Shark was a midrange Lift-Away model that replaced a first-generation Dyson. Want to say we spent $160+. It was a fine model that was slightly better than the outgoing Dyson, but it left a lot to be desired. The cable was short and attached to the base in a horrible spot (where it was likely to get stepped on or tripped over). It also wasn’t a powered Lift-Away, and the short hose would easily tip over the base when stretched a short distance. Handed it down to a college kid after 5 years and decided it was time to splurge on something better.
Enter the Shark Vertex. Not too expensive but far from cheap, the Vertex sits on the high-end of the Shark lineup with all the bells & whistles. Comes with a 30ft cord (5 ft longer than the average) seated in a much more useful position, powered Lift-Away, stretchier hose, the newer tangle-resistant dual roller, and….best of all….immense suction power!
The first pic shows it freshly unboxed. The second pic shows the carnage it pulled from our carpet, one day after our housecleaner was here (she uses a midrange Shark stick vacuum that is still fairly new). No joke, this baby doesn’t mess around! We do have a thick-coated dog that sheds pretty often, but no doubt most of what’s pictured here was missed by the other Shark. We could drop the mic and stop here, but the other perks are worth mentioning.
You don’t really appreciate what it means to have 5 extra feet of cord until you have it! Then there’s the newer roller design that doesn’t tangle. If you deal with pet hair like I do, this is a must-have feature. No need to keep that nasty set of scissors around for clearing out the rollers. Go ahead and toss them for good! And if you are a current Shark owner without “powered” Lift-Away, you’ll appreciate being able to get under low-height furniture like coffee tables and entertainment centers without having to break out the hose attachment. Just engage the Lift-Away feature and the main vacuum head stays running with the ability to glide underneath. Simple and effective!
Speaking of simple, the power button is now at your fingertips on the handle, with different settings for floor height. The dual-roller design uses a soft padded roller that easily collects hair, dirt, and cheerio-sized bits from tile and hardwood floors, including the little grout crevices between tiles. The front facing LEDs are a nice touch as well and fairly bright.
As for the cons, there aren’t many, but there are a few minor gripes…
1. When you adjust to the lowest floor setting with the least suction power, small rugs still have a tendency to lift up and get snagged, tripping the red light and stopping the rollers. Doesn’t happen too often, and when it does, just cycle the power off/on from the handle and keep going.
2. The collection bin is somewhat on the smaller side compared to my last Shark, but on the flipside, it does seem to empty better. It could also be that it fills faster because of how much it is actually collecting!
3. While powered Lift-Away is helpful at times, it can become a little tedious for long periods of use. The speed of the rollers causes the vacuum head to pull away from you. So when you pull the head back toward you, there’s a good deal of resistance.
4. While the hose is longer and stretchier than the mid-range model I owned before, it could still be a bit longer. Very, very minor gripe here.
Overall, extremely happy with the purchase! The newer model, the Shark Stratos, is basically the same vacuum with a slightly cheaper frame and hose, although it does add an “odor neutralizer” feature (uses a cartridge that has to be replaced every 3 months or so, which seems gimmicky to me). Personally, I’d get the Vertex unless the Stratus is marked way down. Cheers!

October 2024 Update
—————————
Thought I’d weigh in with an update after 1 year…
Still loving the Vertex! Sucks like a champion!
No major issues, but there are some minor annoyances worth mentioning. First, the little see-through window area above the rollers gets pretty cloudy from dust. There’s no real way for you to reach up in there to clean it. Also, if something small gets stuck in that spot and bats around, you’ve got to keep cycling power off/on the vacuum and tilting the head until it makes it way past. I’m sure Shark has this compartment sealed for airflow reasons, but it’s annoying nonetheless.
Second, while there are no longer any “tangles” at the front roller that you need a nasty set of scissors for, you do have to remove the roller periodically to clear hair/fur that gets clogged in the “teeth” behind the roller (especially if you have pets like I do).
On a positive note, figured out that it’s better to run the vacuum on the medium height/speed setting instead of low over small carpet rugs/mats, and push the vacuum head away from you (moving forward). It tends to snag a lot less that way.

I’ve had this vacuum for exactly 2 weeks. I use it nearly daily, sometimes twice a day. No pets, but a handful of small children that like to leave a trail of crumbs. We also have had a revolving door of visitors in this timeframe. Based on the other reviews, I was expecting some sort of miracle machine. Maybe my expectations in general are too high, but I give this 5 stars merely because it meets my minimum standards for what I expect out of a household vacuum.
It has great suction. It’s pretty much bringing our carpet back to life. Our old vacuum still works (so I thought) but was definitely dying (purple shark idk actual version, I loved it for 8+ years, it took many beatings, survived many cross country military moves well). As an experiment today (2 weeks post purchase), I vacuumed our living room entirely with our old purple vacuum and then immediately again with this new version. Pictured is what our old vacuum left over for our new version to pick up. Clearly, this one out ranks our old, beat up friend by a mile. I cannot vacuum small rugs with this without getting it clogged, it’s too strong in any of the settings. This new one is doing some serious work for us. Again, maybe I’m expecting too much, but this is just what I imagine a well made vacuum—especially at this price—to do.
Also pictured are the rollers. I have not cleaned them at all, and they look fresh out of the box. No pet hair in the house, but my daughter and I have long hair. Plus like I said, we’ve also had many guests, so it’s been tested.
The attachments are fine. Both standard attachments fit perfectly on the bottom as seen in the last picture, so I don’t get the upset in the other reviews on this aspect. I don’t like the location, I prefer them near the handle since I do use them very often. This I can get over though. Only had one fall off once, but that was due to me bumping it. I do like the long, narrow attachment better than the old version. The brush is an adjustment. It’s larger than the old standard ones. It does also pop off the hose frequently which is frustrating. I’m still getting used to it, but I’m sure it’ll be a non-issue within the next couple of weeks. I don’t think the size is really any better or worse than the old one. The extra mini roller attachment is just ok. It kinda works, not as well as I’d like. Maybe I need to keep using it to get better with it. There’s no spot on the vacuum to store it, so it’s basically nonexistent in my mind.
The longer cord is also taking a bit to get used to with handling it, but overall I do very much appreciate the additional length.
The canister does seem a tad smaller, but for the results, I don’t mind. Pops on and off easily, opens easily to dump. With this design, no hair or stings get tangled up in there, so I haven’t needed to stick my hand or a tool in it to fully clear it out. Absolutely an improvement.
LOVE that the power button is on the handle. It’s very smooth with adjusting the settings even while running.
The bare floor setting actually works and doesn’t just send things flying in every direction.
It is on the heavier side, but I disagree with the other review that says this is too much for an average person to have. This vacuum works like a standard home vacuum should. It has a few flaws that can be overlooked, but I would much rather pay an extra $100 for this than buy a lighter, less effective vacuum. Unfortunate it’s this pricey, but as someone that finds this incredibly expensive, I’m seeing that you get what you pay for with this one. It was hard to push confirm on this order, but I’d say overall it’s worth it given the current vacuum market.

100% recomendada.

I never thought I’d be so excited about a vacuum, but here we are—this vacuum is my new obsession! I can’t believe how much pet hair and dust it picked up from my carpets and floors. It really showed me just how terrible my last vacuum was. I thought I was keeping my house clean, but this vacuum revealed the truth!
If you have a dog that sheds a lot (like my furry friend who seems to think every surface is his personal shedding zone), this is a game-changer. The suction power is incredible, and it grabs every little hair, dust bunny, and piece of dirt like a magnet. I was amazed at how much cleaner my home felt after just one use.
The design is also super user-friendly. It’s easy to maneuver around furniture, and the attachments are perfect for getting into those tricky corners or giving the couch a thorough clean. Emptying the dust cup is a breeze, and I love that it’s bagless—less waste and less hassle!
This vacuum has quickly become the MVP of my cleaning routine, and I genuinely look forward to using it (I know, I can’t believe I just said that either). If you’re tired of fighting a losing battle against pet hair, do yourself a favor and get this vacuum. You won’t regret it!

I’m really impressed as to how well this little machine does. When I say little, I’m use to the big canisters such as Filter Queen and Kenmore that follow me around. It picks up dirt and cat/dog hair very well. This vacuum is almost self propelled. I don’t have to put too much effort into making it go. I like that I can detach the canister and wand from the entire unit and go up the stairs and reach high spots like ledges. I had to get use to the swivel action. Yes, I would recommend this vacuum.

Muy buena compra ! Al principio dude de logrará aspirar los pelos de mi mascota por ser de baterÃa, pero resultó ser potente y la baterÃa dura bastante ! Excelente compra !

It is perfect if you have 2 dogs or more , I can finally do my couch in 20 min instead of 2 hours . The suction is amazing . On the picture its all the dust and hair from my couch and carpet and I have 3 dogs . I deep clean my couch normally every month so it’s amazing how much it came out of it . Seriously worth the money . Probably way better than Dyson since I heard from my brother and other friends that it’s not as good as they say it is . I am just very happy and grateful.

I have owned this vacuum now for over three years. I live with two Labs that shed contently and need to vacuum daily. I have owned at least seven different vacs over the past 40 years always living with multiple dogs.
This vac has outperformed all the vacuums that I have used. It is so well engineered and thoughtfully put together. The suction is incredible the rollers never get bunged up or clogged with hair. The ease of removing the main body from the business end of the vac allows for easy access to under furniture or use on stairs, not to mention the extra reach from the power plug that is obtained at least 5more feet.
Clean out is a breeze with the trap door on the bin and the additional top door opening.
It is such a good vacuum that I purchased one as a bonus for my G.M. when she mentioned she was looking for a vacuum. Although the cost is more than a lot of vacs but not as munch as the cordless hyped alternatives under the “D****” brand.
Buy this vac you will not regret it.
