Small Pet Select Premium White Animal Pellet Bedding for Small Pets Description
- 10 Day Odor Control – We couldn’t believe it either. An eco-friendly option that gets the job done right when it comes to small pet smells. We love our small friends, but sometimes we don’t want to smell them! And you won’t with our superior blend that absorbs it all for up to 10 days.
- Low Dust – Small animals have sensitive little noses. We work hard to keep the dust down so that they can breath easily and safely with a low-dust bedding in easy-to-clean pellets that keep things clean for them and produce less tracking and spills for you to pick up.
- Chemical-Free, Pre-Consumer Paper – Anyone who owns a pet rodent knows that certain types of bedding can be dangerous for them. Chemicals that larger pets or humans may be fine with can wreak havoc on rabbits or rats. We kicked the chemicals to the curb and used only pre-consumer paper for a clean, safe cage liner that protects your pet from both artificial chemicals and naturally occuring scents that can be harmful.
- Naturally Absorbent – Keep your pet warm and dry with an ultralight design that still holds everything you need it to without the bulk of traditional wood shavings. It’s so absorbent that you simply need to sprinkle 1 or 2 inches and let it do its job for the next 10 days. Your pet will stay clean without the need to scrub fleece or frequently fluff thin slices of saturated paper.
- Biodegradable and Compostable – Unlike some types of bedding materials, paper pellets are biodegradable and compostable. This means they can be easily broken down by natural processes and do not contribute to environmental pollution.

Our elderly guinea pig did not find this comfortable or soft enough as bedding, to rest or sleep on and would wander across his enclosure to sleep on his hay pile in the corner. It was a lot more absorbent than carefresh but it definitely was better at odor management in his litter box. It does tend to stick to whatever vessel it is in, so wear gloves or keep a paper towel handy to wipe all the bits out on cleaning day. Seems like it’s more a small critter safe litter than a bedding product.

Adding a star today to reflect the superior results I had this past week of zero daily maintenance and no complete litter change which is what I usually do.
4 full grown litter trained buns share this box (one of three) the pics (not pretty I know) show how the pellets change their color w/urine – they typically go in corners. Itโs has proven to be way more absorbent than my pine pellets as well as odor free.
Now I will admit I would still do daily maintenance but for review purposes I let it go for a week.
-original review 4 stars-
I have 4 buns that are litter box trained. I usually use wood pellets for their litter. I like & dislike the white color for litter; itโs easy to see the soiled areas which I can scoop out easily. Itโs pretty absorbent & I was surprised that it didnโt smell bad quickly. I do keep up w/it everyday but do complete litter changes 2x a week. I think it would depend on how your animal uses the litter & how often you maintain it. Overall Iโm pleased with this litter and would purchase it again.

This was my first experience with the rolled paper pellets bedding for small pets. I have 3 45 gallon aquariums for our Syrian hamsters and it takes a lot of bedding to provide them enough to make burrows and nests. These paper pellets are awesome in building up the bedding and providing enough absorbtion to keep the enclosures clean between weekly spot cleanings. I use Aspen on the bottom of the enclosures then I used these paper pellets, and top off with the soft paper bedding.
They help with absorbtion which is important but they also add sturdiness to help keep the burrows from collapsing. They come in a huge box and they cover a large area. They help reduce the urine smell and look neat in their enclosures. I am so glad I found out about this form of bedding and I know my hamsters are to.

These pellets absorbe moisture very well and make cage cleanup easy.

I love animals, and I have a guinea pig and a hamster. Both animals are best suited to indoor living, and while they are adorable, their urine waste produces an unpleasant odor. In order to keep odor at a minimum, I have used a competitor’s paper pellet litter that works well for about three days before it needs to be changed. While I like the competitor’s bedding for quality and for the fact that it is made in the western world where stringent manufacturing standards are in place, I now prefer Small Pet Select for its superior quality and for being made in USA. As an American, I like to support jobs in my homeland.
To test the product claim about odor control, I have been using Small Pet Select in my pets’ habitats for a week, and there is absolutely NO ODOR of urine. This is the only bedding product that 100% lives up to this commonly used selling point. Further, it produces no dust to get trapped in human and animal-companion respiratory tracts. Plus, my guinea pig enjoys nibbling on the clean pellets that contain safe ingredients and are not a cause for concern about my pet’s well-being.
I like the way the product is packaged in an easy-to-open box with a double lid. The litter is easy to access, and its container stores nicely in a closet. The competitor’s product is packaged in a paper bag that is a bit difficult to handle at 30 L and is priced at $24.00 (USD). The package is awkward to handle, so I throw it over my shoulder when I purchase it at a local feed store. The Small Pet Select product’s weight is 35L, and the price is anywhere from $8.00 to $10.00 higher. However, this product requires less frequent changing and–for this reason–is at least as economical as the competitor’s product.
Finally, I love the fact that Small Pet Select is environmentally friendly. It can be safely composted. Because it is great for the garden, it needn’t add to the solid waste already overtaxing our landfills.
I cannot comment on its odor control for fecal waste. However, except for Pygmy Hedgehogs and ferrets–which I have never owned–rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, and chinchillas produce odorless fecal pellets. If you have animals that produce odorless droppings, Small Pet Select is the perfect bedding for them. I am looking forward to trying their other soft bedding products as well.

I like how this looks in my hamster’s cage. One thing I really like is that it doesn’t have an odor. Some beddings I have used smell worse than the hamster’s business, and this doesn’t. It’s a large box and will last a while.
One possible issue is that if you have a little creature that enjoys burrowing, this doesn’t work well for that. It works in places that just need a surface covering, but for burrowing another type of bedding is needed as this just collapses in on itself immediately.
My hamster’s cage is custom built, and the sides open up. Because this is pellets, they have a tendency to roll around easily and get all over if the side of the cage is opened, and even get into the door hinge making it difficult to close back up again. This likely won’t be an issue for most people.

I like this white pellet litter because it is lightweight and you can see exactly where the bunnies have peed and remove it. It also does not have the odor of the recycled paper pellet litter. But I do not like that there are small white particles that get all over the place and make a mess. I wish it was less crumbly. I’m afraid it clings to their fur and they might ingest it. Every litter has pros and cons. I’ve tried most of them.
