Speck Balance FOLIO Case Stand 91905-B565

I spent a week trying to decide what case to purchase for my very first iPad, and I’m glad I settled on this one. All the cut-outs are lined up nicely. The iPad snaps snugly inside the case. This case is advertised with 4′ drop protection – I’m not about to test that claim but what I do see looks like darn good protection. The case has a small raised lip around the top edge so if you were to lay the iPad face down on a table, the screen won’t be touching the table…not that I’d do that….and the protruding camera is protected by the case as well. The clasp opens and closes smoothly and keeps the case closed while carrying. I like the multiple viewing angles. I like that the iPad wakes when I open the flap and goes back to sleep when I close it. I didn’t weigh the case before I put the iPad in it but it does add some girth & heft, but NOT TOO much – it still fits in the “X-super 2017 Version iPad Pro 10.5 Sleeve Pouch”.

UPDATE: After 2 months of use, no drops or misuse, the piece covering the speaker next to the power button broke down the middle of the holes made for the speaker. And, the corner where a couple of reviews said it broke off near the camera is getting loose. Nice looking cover but not very solid.

It’s a very nice looking case and there are plenty of indentions for the adjustment angle of the stand. The cover has a nice feel to it and clips on pretty securely to keep it closed (it will also clip on when folded all the way back). I would highly recommend buying a screen protector as well since this product doesn’t feel like it will fully protect the iPad if dropped on hits something hard.

I love the design, but this is the third one of this design I’ve bought. They crack at the corner after six months or so. For the very low price Amazon charges for the black one, it’s worth it to me to keep buying them, as it’s slim, light, has a secure clasp, is protective until it cracks, and has nice angles for typing and for watching video.

Overall, I would say I am very careful with my technology. That being said, I would not recommend this case to someone who frequently throws their iPad into their bag or has a tendency to drop it more often.
The case stays on tightly and has a snug finish around the border. The corners are slightly raised above the front panel. What I am not impressed by is the structural finishes at the top left and right corners in particular. Regardless of my carefulness, the thin pieces of plastic supporting the camera insert and sleep/wake button snapped during routine case removal. My boyfriend has the same cracks on similar parts of the product due to case removal. If this part is going to crack so easily, I would imagine the rest of the unit will not support the iPad in a substantial drop. I was hoping for a bit more, but I feel as though the generally lower-cost on Amazon makes it a bit more worth it. I would never pay the retail price for this – there are better quality products that are similar in cost.

I love this case! It is lightweight yet solidly built. I have always used the Otterbox defender for my iPads but I wanted something less bulky and lighter with my new iPad this time. The sleep/wake function works perfectly and the clasp to keep the cover closed is a nice addition. The black color is very sleek and has an expensive look to it and it has enough grip that I don’t worry about it slipping out of my hands.
Highly recommend if you are looking for lightweight protection for your iPad without all the bulk!
