I used this as a new OS drive for my mom’s old iMac, which had the old HDD drive and was slowing down to a crawl. This worked out of the box, no issues with formatting or speed. I was surprised with how small it is (definitely great for anyone that travels)! It was easy to tuck away behind her screen to keep her office desk neat, just how she likes. She says her iMac’s performance is like night and day. Thinking about ordering a few for myself for photo storage.

I actually had questions on this item and was able to email the manufacturer and got satisfactory customer service! They emailed me back and made sure all my questions were answered! That told me right up front that they stood behind their product! Drive worked flawlessly so far. Some of the reviews I read had problems passing data, and mostly it was the cable. Mine worked fine but if you purchase this try using a different usb cable and it s/b ok from everyone’s advice prior to purchase.
Prior to my purchase I had a different external drive. I can’t mention the manufacturer but it was one of those bookcase 1 TB drives and you can figure that one out on from there. I am a musician. I put all my data on it, and could never access it again!!! Worked only once. – I regretfully should have read their reviews because it seems everyone was having the same exact problem. And this well known company doesn’t do updates on their interface software and their customer service sucks. They didn’t even want to talk to me, and couldn’t help me! So buy this one and you should be ok. I like it, fits in your shirt pocket too!

I was looking for another SSK SD300 Solid State flash drive because I’ve been happy with their performance, when I spotted this SSK SD500 portable SSD at a lower price and decided to give it a try. Glad I did because it’s impressive, especially for the price. It’s tiny (similar to 2 side by side SD300) and on a USB 3.2 Gen 2 port it’s much faster! I was able to get close to the advertised speeds on my AMD based Windows 11 gaming laptop (almost double the performance of the SD300 thumb drive).
I also tested it on a Raspberry Pi 4B, and while the 4B can’t take advantage of the drive’s full performance, it did support UASP and TRIM in Raspberry Pi OS, and was as fast as the best SSD models I’ve tested on the 4B’s USB 3.0.

Tested quickly on a Lenovo with thunderbolt and I got a good sustained 500 MB/s on pictures (lots of 1-2MB files). Good enough for me and way better than the previous one I had, especially for the price!

I’ve had this external drive for about 4 months now and continue to be really impressed by it. Okay – it’s not the cheapest version on the market, but for speed, convenience and portability, it may well be the best out there. I read the rave reviews about this item before I purchased it and thought they were probably exaggerating a bit. Turns out it’s all true. Smaller than a matchbox, it seems this would never have a genuine storage capacity of 2TB but it does. File transfer easily as good as others that need to be plugged into the mains (and better than a few). Really excellent product.

Good price, great device. Quality of build feels good initially. The drive reads/writes very quickly from first tests working with thousands of images at a time. Only used with the straight usb-c 3.2 connection. Time will tell for durability and reliability/longevity.
