SW Stevens –
Love this hat. Seems hard to find a Panama that doesn’t have a down-turned brim. I like this one a lot. Well made and half the cost of my similar hats.
Danno in Idaho –
This is a VERY stiff weave; not like normal Panama hats. It will have a very hard feel. The look is not bad and quality is good, but not what is expected for the price. If this was in the 70-80 range it would be a good buy. You will most likely enjoy the hat but feel you paid a touch too much. At 100+ this is not a bargain. At 115-120 range you can get a much better and more “formable” hat with better quality. So, it’s ok.
JAMES R MARKHAM –
One of my new favorite Panama hats.
Well made, it says made in Mexico but the actual straw weave is made in Ecuador. So a genuine Panama. Great price for a classy hat.
Houston Bill –
This is my first ‘real’ straw hat so I wasn’t 100% sure what to expect. I have a paper straw hat from Pineapple & Star and, obviously, this is a whole different experience. The weave seems good, I don’t see any gaps or voids in the pattern, and the crown and brim are pretty stiff. I guess this is a problem for some but I find it keeps its shape better than the floppier paper straw.
The sizing is just about right. I wear a 7 1/8 hat and the medium is supposed to go up to 7 1/8. I feel it could be just that little bit tighter but it fits snugly enough that it does not slip when I shake my head side to side. I think the color is perfect and exactly what I wanted from a “natural” straw hat.
It arrived quickly in a box that was perfectly sized for the hat but it does not come with a storage box. The brim was flipped up for shipping but the front snapped right into place. It seemed a little dry when it arrived so I took a nice hot shower with the hat sitting on the crown in the bathroom and now it feels more supple and doesn’t creak when I flex the brim.
Last note: the ad says Made in Mexico and it even has the Made in Mexico sticker, however inside the top of the crown it is stamped “Panama Hat, Made In Ecuador”. This leads me to believe it is is actually woven in Ecuador but then shipped to Mexico to have the sweat band, label, and grosgrain ribbon added before being sent on to US distributors and retailers.
If it were $20 cheaper, this would be a 5-star hat in my opinion.
Seat4F –
Itโs not the best or the worst but itโs a decent panama hat in this price range. Dimensionally this hat is nearly perfect. It has the best combination of brim size, peak height pinch shape. Etc. it just looks good.
It has the correct Ecuador stamp inside the crown. Itโs worth noting that all true Panama hats are made in Ecuador. Apparently these hats are made in Ecuador, but finished in Mexico. Thatโs OK too. The weave and stitching is decent, but not the highest quality.
All in all, itโs a nice quality panama hat that looks sharp.

Quality: less than expected of Stetson
Appearance: beat up before boxing, looks like someone sat on it.
Assessment: Disappointing
Seat4F –
I wear this hat when visiting Mexico. The straw construction is super cool and the hat is feather light. I own three other Stetson hats and the quality and fit is perfect for me.
Houston Bill –
The hat looks good, but feels cheap, like plastic.
