Love that this tank has lots of better viewing all around it! I added a pic of the side view too. Found it easy to set up.. the filter is nice and quiet. I added my heater and airstone for bubbles. Like others are saying ..the lid is a bit weird but not too bad.. it’s unhinged but I like that feature and I’m just hoping my snail doesnt crawl out that open space in the front. Might need to cover it. The lights are VERY bright but I put white tape on it ..now it’s perfect. Overall I really like this tank !

8/25/12 UPDATE: Folks looking for small acrylic tanks, here are others — Aquarius Aq15005 Aquarius 5 Rounded 5-Gallon Aquarium Kit and Petco Bookshelf Freshwater Fish Aquarium.
People who keep fish prefer glass over acrylic and not just because acrylic is more expensive. As far as I know, there’s only three reasons folks go with acrylic:
1) Acrylic weighs way less than glass.
2) Acrylic retains heat better, which helps if you keep tropical fish.
3) Acrylic won’t break into scary glass pieces.
I bought the 5 gallon here cause I couldn’t find affordable (and by that I mean $50 and under) alternatives in acrylic tanks anywhere else, and boy, I’ve looked. People often forget that each gallon of water adds 8.24 lbs to an aquarium. Since I’ve got a 2-tier computer desk that has only 3 out of the 4 screws keeping the top shelf stable, I wanted an easy-to-lift aquarium that won’t come crashing down my shelf from the weight of the water, rocks, and everything in it. This did the job.
WHAT SUCKS ABOUT IT is the filter, a Tetra Whisper 10i, which uses size Medium “Bio Bags”. It’s quiet, but the Bio Bags cartridges are terrible. They’re floss pads filled with carbon (though you can buy ’em unassembled and fill ’em yourself). The pad is too porous. Sometimes, carbon settles in the bottom of the pad like a huge butt, making it hard to slip into the filter. Sometimes, the pad tears and carbon falls out. Also, throwing out each pad can cause the tank to mini-cycle. (If you don’t understand what that last sentence means, Google “nitrogen cycle”.)
GREAT FILTER ALTERNATIVES would be the Marina S10 or the AquaClear 20, but you’ll have to leave the tank hoodless for either one to work.
WHAT I LOVE ABOUT IT is that I paired this up with the ViaAqua6 Blue LED bubbler and because the tank has a clear hood, the blue lights hit my white ceiling and create gorgeous blue light ripples. The water coming out of the filter won’t aerate your tank enough. So this was a beautiful and practical option. If you want to do this too, don’t forget you need to buy a plastic tube and a pump with it. I went with the Marina Cool Pump. Oh and for everyone who hates how big the filter looks in the tank, a 6″ bubble curtain will totally take your eyes off it.
OTHER THINGS I LIKE is the LED lamp, but that’s cause I don’t keep anything more than an anubias; your other plants will hate you for it by dying. Finally, kudos to Tetra for that flimsy looking hood; I started using the tank in August 2011 and the hood hasn’t warped whatsoever.
DEAR TETRA, please make me a 10 gallon acrylic (filter unneeded). I mean, I found this one on Amazon, but it looks like it’s glass.

At first we thought it was an ok first tank for our son. When adding water into the tank it cracked along the bottom. When we emptied and tried to move the tank it broke in two pieces. Very disappointed with this purchase.

Pros: The walls are almost twice as thick as other tanks I have bought, that bulged when filled. It’s very clear, not cloudy as one of my other tanks. The cover has openings for a heater cord and airline tubing. Comes with a very informative set-up and maintenance instruction sheet.
Cons: Flimsy cover, slightly warped cover doesn’t fit flat on tank and an unnecessary large, feeding opening could let fish jump out; I cover it with a glass plate. Extremely bright white only LED light bar; I put black tape over three of the nine lights. The filter pump looks oversized and a bit noisy; but the water flow can be adjusted.
Overall: I am very pleased and recommend, it despite my cons.

I bought this because I wanted a bowfront tank and was just getting started with my first. It works well enough for that purpose, though I’ll probably be upgrading in the future for a number of reasons.
The tank itself is fine, made of sturdy acrylic. It tends to get a little scratched, but nothing major and as long as you’re not rubbing anything sharp against it you should be fine.The bottom is not flush but is supported by several tiny domed feet under the floor of the tank. The lid isn’t great; it is black plastic has built in feeding and cord holes as well as a holder for the lights. If you have a betta that’s a jumper, be aware of the water level and cover these holes with mesh as necessary. The acrylic may also discolor in areas where you have suction cups attached to the walls.
The light is awful, and my least favorite part of the tank. It’s a tiny water proof lightbar that fits awkwardly into the lid. It doesn’t cover the entire tank, and due to the black lid it’s very difficult to find a replacement.
The filter is fine, no problems so far. It comes with carbon-filled cartridges, but you can swap them out for a sponge or ceramic easily if you’d like. It has a low flow and my half-moon boy has no problem swimming around. It does have a pocket in the front that a fish can swim into, but there’s no moving parts there they can get into and it’s fairly easy to stuff a sponge in there if you’re worried.

What you see is what you get. This is a small, but very nice looking tank. The LED light works very well and the filter is large, but quiet. The plastic base fits on well, but remember it is still a thin peice of plastic. The tank lid has all the appropriate cutouts and openings to allow access for extra air lines or cords. The lid doesn’t fit really snug on the tank, but it hasn’t bothered me one bit. I purchased a small 25watt aquarium heater and it’s keeping the water at a nice and even 77deg. The heater, a cheap thermometer and air pump plus bubbler and you have a great little tank thats ready to go. (A side note: if this is your first fish tank, be sure to read up on tank cycling before adding any fish to the tank. If you add to many fish to quickly, then they’ll end up dying. Trying adding one or two hardy fish to the tank and giving the tank 1 month or so to adapt to the new polutants. After a month or so has gone by and the first fish are in good health, you can slowly start to add more over time). Good luck and enjoy!
