VASAGLE 3-Tier Freestanding Shoe Storage Cabinet

Firstly, if you need to store men’s shoes larger than size 11, this might not be the best cabinet for that. If this doesn’t apply to you, read on.

This attractive shoe cabinet so closely resembles a tv stand/media cabinet that it could probably be used for that, as well. It even has a cutout at the top of the back through which cords could pass, although that is to be used in conjunction with the wall anchoring device provided.

The cabinet has a rustic “farmhouse” look, with a faux distressed textured laminate MDF dark “wood” top. The rest of the cabinet, also MDF except for a thin backing, is painted off-white with streaks of gray for an aged look. As happens with MDF, even normal wear and tear could result in chipping that could be difficult to repair, but you get what you pay for, and this item is quite competitively priced for a cabinet.

The cabinet took about an hour to put together using an allen wrench and my screwdriver that I preferred to use over the tiny one included. There were no written instructions, only pictures, but they were adequate for their purpose.

As mentioned earlier, the cabinet is MDF except for the back, a cardboard-like piece that slides into channels. The doors and hinges work fine. The black handles look cheaper than I’d like, so I’ll probably replace or paint them. I already plan to paint the cabinet a different color, possibly a sage green or a soft gray. All of the pieces are connected using cam locks, dowel bolts, metal screws and wooden dowel pins. The cabinet materials seemed flimsy, but the assembled product was surprisingly sturdy.

Overall, the cabinet is a nice piece of furniture, especially for those on a budget or for crafty folks like me. Would recommend.

I wanted a shoe rack for our bedroom closet to put my husband’s shoes into, and this worked perfectly! I could use one more for all his shoes and then another 3 for all of mine, lol! My husband is a cabinet installer and carpenter so he is the one who had to put it together for me when it arrived. Considering that it’s an inexpensive particle board cabinet with a laminated finish, he said it was fairly well made and went together pretty quickly. That says a lot coming from my Mr. Perfectionist!

I got the Rustic White shoe Cabinet and it looks exactly like the picture. It was easy to build although some parts seems flimsy. I needed an extra pair of hands to hold some parts still as I put it together during the build. I do want to point out that you do not want to over tighten the screws due to the material of the boards and the face that the screws will be stripped if you use a better quality screw driver than the one it comes with. While I did get it because I needed a shoe cabinet, it’s nice enough that I’ll probably use it as a storage cabinet.

The reasons I chose this are price, appearance, and height. Although it’s nice looking, after assembly I quickly realized it’s not very good for shoe storage! My husband’s Size 9 boots wouldn’t fit unless I turned them at a slight angle- annoying. The height of this piece will fit underneath the coats in a coat closet, which is why I picked it over the taller shoe cabs. Re. assembly, simple instructions but missing 6 tiny screws for the hinges! We had to scramble to find more small screws- this will most definitely inconvenience! Almost all of this “Acme” self-assembly crap comes without carpenter or “wood glue” for the enclosed small wood dowels for the joinery. Strongly suggest to buy wood glue at Home Depot or a hardware store to apply to the wood dowels- it greatly strengthens & stabilizes, and will help make it last longer than 2 years! If you decide it won’t work the best for shoes, it can be re-purposed for media (there’s 1 hole in the back to pass electrical cords through).
