I bought this particular ice maker cause it stated that it’s self cleaning. It’s not! It’s quite difficult to clean. I really have to stay on top of it because mold grows rather quickly. No matter how many diff types of brushes I have bought none of them reach the back tray. It makes good ice quickly & it’s very convenient but I payed more for the self cleaning feature & didn’t get it!

I recently replaced my mom’s 20 year old side by side refrigerator with a newer fridge more suited to her needs. (Freezer on top, fridge on bottom. Old style, but not narrow in freezer/fridge like a side by side). One thing that the new fridge doesn’t have is an ice maker like her old side by side.

So I picked up this beautiful blue unit (they have various colors) that sits on the counter. The unit is VERY QUIET while it is running with only the occasional sound of ice being deposited in the hopper. It does need to have water poured in every now and then to refill the reservoir, and if you leave the ice in the hopper for a while, it will start to melt and stick to the other ice cubes. But if you empty the hopper every now and then and put the ice in ziploc bags and put them in the freezer for later use, then it does a great job.

The ice is bullet style ice, and the machine will allow you to select large or small bullet sized ice. This is NOT Sonic ice! (The soft crunchy ice found at Sonic drive in). I have a GE Opal ice maker in the garage that needs repairing that makes Sonic ice (that I love!), but considering that the GE model is 5 times the price of this one (and is currently broken), this is a fantastic replacement.

And if your freezer is full of ice and you don’t need to make any more, you can just store this in the garage on a shelf until it’s needed. This can also be taken with you camping (if you have a generator) and will provide up to 26 lbs of ice a day.

I have to say, I am a big fan of this

Ice maker on fridge decided to stop working. I ordered this to provide ice since 3 bucks a bag wouldn’t take long to exceed this purchase price. 2 days after it came in, my fridge started making ice again???? I still use this ice maker vs the fridge due to the type and quality of the cubes. Plus, it’s great going into summer when ice consumption increases, especially when friends and neighbors are over. I have both the fridge and the countertop ice to provide cold drinks. One thing to note, there is a “full” ice sensor that will stop production when full. The sensor is right at the discharge side of the ice basket, which piles up a little higher than the other side. If the “full” light is on, and you’re using a lot of ice, just knock the pile down from the edge and level it out. It will start back again, and there will be room for that additional dump into the basket. No, it isn’t loud. No, it hasn’t broken or caused any issues. The instructions DO say that if it is placed in direct sunlight, it might not produce ice because sunlight will give the FULL sensor a false reading, making it think it is full of ice. Enjoy!

After a small flood in our house thanks to our refrigerator water line leaking and destroying the laminate floor, we decided to disconnect the water supply to the refrigerator permanently and purchased and installed a water filtration system and faucet in the kitchen sink as well as purchased this ice maker to replace the ice from the refrigerator.

First, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS before making ice. The machine needs to sit for an hour or so to let the refrigerant settle again after being shaken around and turned over.

Second, use good clean water and clean the insides of the ice maker before use and periodically to avoid any nasty surprises.

Third, remember this is NOT A FREEZER! Once you get the machine up and running you will notice that the ice will stay solid in the tray but since this is not a freezer you should periodically transfer it to your freezer or it WILL melt in your machine.

Fourth, there are two options for ice cube sizes. The small ice cubes are just a waste of time. They are so tiny that they will melt very quickly if not transferred immediately to your freezer. I will only make the large ice cubes that seem to be a great size.

Fifth, you should understand that when you transfer the ice to your freezer it will likely be wet and once it starts to really freeze and harden in your freezer it is likely going to turn into one giant ice cube. (see photo). Fortunately, most ice makers in refrigerators have the breaker bar to either crush or just break up the ice as it dispenses. This seems to work just fine for our purposes.

This machine has several great functions to prolong it’s life. It will automatically shut off when the ice tray gets full. It will also automatically shut off if it runs out of water. You need to realize that this machine only makes a few cups of ice before reaching it’s capacity. I had it running for a full day and constantly moved the ice to my freezer just to fill the ice bucket in my freezer. My wife doesn’t use ice and I only use it to make iced tea and my breakfast smoothies so 1 full day of making ice only lasts me about two full days before I start the process over. This would never work if we had kids or anyone else in the house that uses ice regularly.

All in all a pretty good machine and I’ve had no problems with it but this should be considered an “accessory” and NOT your primary source for ice. This would be handy to have when you have company over and need just a little more ice than your regular freezer/refrigerator can keep up with.
