WD drives have yet to fail me, had laptops with them as primary back then and now as secondary storage, arrived well capacity as purchased and packaged and protected from impact that could have happened over delivery, drive has been working great so far, capacity and speed as expected. Solid purchase

**NOTE: My pictures were taken a few hours after I had the drive running for a bit. When I first tested the drive, it has 0 power on hours!

So, first thing I want to say is this drive is advertised as a retail drive but is in-fact an OEM drive. Normally this isn’t an issue except that when you have an OEM drive from Western Digital (WD) the warranty is now on the OEM to uphold instead of WD. The OEM in this case being the seller (Hard Drive Geeks for me). The only physical difference on the drive is the Western Digital label on top is replaced with a white label. I set my rating at 3 stars because it clearly shows a retail drive but is instead a OEM drive.

The main issue is that Western Digital WILL NOT warranty this drive because it is an OEM drive. If your drive has an issue you MUST go to the seller. A lot of the times, this is fine but it all depends on if your seller actually backs their warranty. That being said, the seller MUST maintain the same warranty period or longer. Since WD warranties this for 2 years, so must the seller of the OEM drive.

The decision should be up to you really on buying this. The warranty of most hard drives don’t cover data recovery in the first place (unless you have higher end NAS drives) so I don’t expect most people to use the warranty even when there is an issue. I expect most people to contact a data recovery service. So… long story short is that if you are concerned about getting a retail drive with the retail warranty, I would look to the manufactures website for purchasing options, otherwise the OEM version of the drive (for me) was brand new and performed at expected levels for a 5400 RPM spinning disk and will work fine for me needs as a secondary storage drive with an SSD cache on top to speed things up a little.

    TL;DR:
The drive is a genuine new Western Digital drive sold to a third-party seller with a “white label” on top instead of Western Digital branding. The drive should be new (install Crystal Disk Info to check) with 0 hours of power on time. Western Digital does not warranty white label/OEM drives, the warranty is up to the seller to take care of. That being said, the seller is required to maintain the same warranty period or longer, which in my case was the minimum of 2 years. This drive performs as expected and is for all intensive purposes the same physical drive as the retail version, just no WD branding on top.

This WD 2.5″ HDD offers an excellent value with high storage capacity at a great price. I use it as an external drive with a connecting cord as needed, and it has been performing flawlessly. It’s whisper-quiet and has fast read and write speeds from what I’ve seen so far as well. Easily recognizable and formatted through Windows, and delivering the reliable performance and quality that I’ve come to expect from the WD brand. All in all, for external or 2.5″ replacement, I think this is a solid choice for your storage needs. Would recommend!

Installed it in Eufy Homebase for cameras, works fine, checked once or twice to see if it was getting heat beyond normal but it was fine. Priced right during prime day, so bought it. I had to format it for Eufy to start using it.

Bu hard disk drive, yüksek veri transfer hızı ve kaliteli malzemesiyle öne çıkıyor. Eski HDD’lere göre biraz daha ince, bu da onu daha taşınabilir ve kullanışlı hale getiriyor.

I bought the 2.5″ 2TB bare drive to replace the 500GB drive in my Dell Inspiron 15. Despite some negative reviews I ordered this anyway. It came a day earlier than expected and was packed in a sealed antistatic bag in a box wrapped with bubble protector and shipped in a padded packing envelope. Good care in shipping. A sticker on the outside of the antistatic bag read “2 yr warranty by Hard Drive Geeks.” So if the drive does fail I won’t be calling WD but contacting the Geeks. As far as hard drives go, they are all a gamble. Over the years I’ve had hard drives fail, but WD ones seemed to be the best, so I prefer them to Seagate.
….I put the bare drive into my USB drive dock and connected the USB to my laptop. I then used the free Hard Drive clone utility Macrium Reflect I downloaded from CNET Downloads. This is on a Windows 10 x64 system. All I did was choose the current hard drive, click Clone and then click the new HD in my dock as the destination. The software ran flawlessly and copied my whole drive in about 5 1/2 hrs. Then I shut the laptop down, unplugged it, took out the old drive and put the new 2TB drive in. Works perfectly, and I will then use the Windows resizing utility on the remaining space for storage. If you don’t know how to remove or install a hard drive just put in your computer model and type hard drive installation on youtube, there are a ton of videos. Overall I am very happy with this product. If the drive starts acting up I will update the review. In the meantime I have put the original hard drive in a protective case for storage in case I ever need to put it back in for an emergency.

Although I’ve just installed this I have had nothing but good luck with WD products. Swapping out the drive took all but 5 minutes from removal of old hard drive to finished formatted new drive. If you don’t have a fat backwards compatible PS3 you’ll need to download the most recent update and put it on a FAT32 formatted usb stick and insert it before booting up the ps3 with the new HHD. There are plenty of YouTube tutorials on how to do that. NOTE: apparently PS3’s eventually kill SSD’s because of how the read/write is set up. Stick with an HDD max size 1.5 TB. This drive is perfect for what I need.

Works well with Eufy surveillance which is the main point I got it for. Easily fitted and no problems with it yet.

Holding up so far. About two months in. Running on Linux Mint (One for OS, one for Timeshift, one for data and the fourth for data backup).

It is valuable for the money, but it has and actually smaller Physically than my system installation drive that contains all my stuff. Easy easily compatible with my motherboard too. And pretty silent! I’ve been using the data capacity for games and Back ups from my modded consoles. Great quality too!
