Thank the gods for amazon. The “competetor’s” inferior product at petco is nearly double the price of this. And they don’t even carry Reptisun at my local Petco OR petsmart, which have officially run all of the decent locally owned pet shops out of town.
If you’re going to take on the responsibility of caring for another living thing, do it right. Spend a few extra bucks to get them the right stuff, their quality of life depends entirely on you and your choice to adopt them. For a bearded dragon, there is no substitute for the ReptiSun. Remember to replace your bulbs once every year or two. Just because the light hasn’t burnt out, doesn’t mean that the UVB production is still working. Every 3-6 months as recommended is excessive and unnecessary. Just a ploy to sell more bulbs. There is no evidence that the degraded UVB a year or more into a bulbs life is insufficient. But to play it safe and ensure that an indoor desert lizard such as a beardie is getting as beneficial a habitat as possible, I recommend once a year, two years tops.

Really good ! Only took a few days to arrive and it works really well. I recommend this product to everyone that own desertic animals that need powerful lights ! But you HAVE to change this light every 12 months.

I purchased this for a tank for my bearded dragon. The bulb in the fluorescent fixture had burned out. I had an interesting problem with this light in that it didn’t fit well in the fluorescent fixture for my tank. It was a little too long and the prongs would not slide into the slot – I had to snip off a small length of the prongs to get it to fit correctly. After getting it installed it worked fine.

I own a juvenile bearded dragon and just upgraded to a 40g breeder enclosure, so I had to upgrade my UVB bulb to a 24″ tube (I had an 18″ in a 20L tank). I originally went to Petsmart to get one, but they wanted $50 for it! Outrageous. So, I came to Amazon and found it for $23.50; of course I was ecstatic. I ordered it right away, then I somehow had a few bucks in store credit, so my subtotal came to $19.xx. I was even happier. The shipping only took about 5-6 days (I ordered on the weekend), and came boxed very well; very well protected. This UVB bulb is the best on the market, and you cannot beat this price. I would certainly recommend this to a friend.

First time I received this bulb, the seller apparently had no idea how to correctly ship it, and I received it entirely shattered inside it’s box. The second time the bulb hadn’t shattered, so I stupidly assumed the bulb was safe and never bothered to test it out in my fixture. I wrapped it up in my own bubble wrap and put it in my garage.
Went to replace my tortoise’s bulb yesterday, and this second bulb isn’t working either. Both ends of the bulb are getting really bright but the bulb won’t turn on, just flickering. Tried to contact the seller because this replacement bulb wouldn’t work at all and they’re mega expensive bulbs, and the seller basically told me it’s been too long to do anything, so they incorrectly ship these bulbs in the first place, and then even though it had been over 30 days before I became aware of the fact the “replacement” was also defective, they have basically told me I just have to buy another one. Don’t buy from these people they don’t know what they’re doing with expensive bulbs.

This is the new ‘skinny’ style energy efficient bulb and it did not work in my old style fixture. My old fixture used a fatter around light tube. This new tube plugged into the old sockets, but did not light up. Once getting a new fixture, it lit up just fine. I don’t know how necessary UV-B is for my iguanas, but the lizards are doing well so I use it. I was concerned about breakage shipping this bulb, but it arrived undamaged.

I guess I’m cheap (or poor, which might be what makes me cheap), but I just find it a bit hard to consider a single bulb worth $20+, but then again the price isn’t what I’m reviewing.
I bought one of these bulbs before, and with these type bulbs you must replace them (even if they aren’t burnt out) at regular intervals of about 6 months. They will continue working, but not producing UV radiation at the required levels.
I’ve been using them in my bearded dragon’s tank since October 2011 and he’s still doing fine. The bulb works and does it’s job, the lizard is healthy, it arrived well packed and padded to heck and back with bubble wrap (which I appreciated). I can’t see a reason not to give 5 stars.

I have bought these bulbs before and I might just have to say this time the packaging was way better than before, before came in small bubble wrap and not very effective, this time I received a better quality package with bigger bubble wrap and more secure. Onto the bulb it’s self this is one of the best bulbs out there beside from the Arcadia bulbs and t5s, I use these for my bearded dragons and haven’t seen any better results beside the other brand I use when my Arcadia bulbs go out and I can’t wait a week for them to be shipped these are the best replacement. My bearded dragons stay active and have a great appetite and are growing like a weed!

I am using this to get some UV light for the same reason people get expensive SAD, seasonal affective disorder, therapy lights. I don’t live in the northern latitudes and its summer but I spend most of my time indoors. I have read that getting UV in the retina as well as on the skin is good for your health, circadian clock, vitamin D, nitric oxide to lower blood pressure, mood, etc. I wear sunscreen on my hands & face and sit a couple of feet away so I’m not worried about UV skin damage. But it does not seem bright enough to do any good. I don’t have a UV meter so I can’t tell for sure.
I don’t think an expensive SAD light would even accomplish these goals b/c it doesn’t have any UV even though they claim “full spectrum” sunlight. I think a sun tanning lamp would be going to far and my coworkers would discovery my true eccentricities! I also don’t want a tan.
Any suggestions?

It’s the only brand I use. Never any issues.
