    This kit has different lengths for front and rear cables, which is not uncommon, but not always how it’s done. Just make sure you don’t accidentally use the long cable for the front brake/derailleur– use the shorter one for those. Housing is cheap but seems fine, I’ve seen worse. Includes universal cable tips, donuts, and hooks for managing housing (nice touch). The ferrules are cheap plastic but that’s ok given the price.

    I bought this kit to change the rear derailleur on my old 2013 Diamondback. The original frayed and I considered taking it to a bike shop. Usually these repairs are not expensive but when I noticed how inexpensive the cables were I decided to do it myself and I’m glad I did. The quality seems great there are two derailleur cables and two brake cables. I accidentally cut a brake cable thinking it was a derailleur cable so pay attention to the ends, but that was entirely my fault. Once I had the right cable and fed it through I realized it was a bit too short. So short that if I kept all the outer cables the same length the internal cable would not reach the tightening nut on the derailleur. I ended up taking off about 3 inches from the front outer cable closest to the shifter and about an inch from the rear most outer cable just so the internal cable could reach and even then it was just enough to put back through the tightening bolt and the piece left over was just long enough to crimp. It did make trying to tighten the cable a bit harder, being there was just barely enough cable to work with. I wish the cable would have been at least 4 inches longer, 6 to be on the safe side, but really 8-10 would be best as this cable was too small for a medium sized frame, there’s no telling if it were a larger frame. I did have to waste some of the outer cable pieces once I had to recut them after noticing it wouldn’t work out but I liked that it came with the outer cables and ends. All good quality, good wire, held together nicely, just too short.

    Everything I needed to replace the brake and gear cables and housings for an 84 Schwinn High Sierra. I cut the cable housing the same way I’ve been cutting them for years – with a 4 1/2″ grinder with a metal cutting disc. Make sure to ream out the hole with a pick or awl. Great kit, everything I needed to do the job. Don’t forget to use a few drops of oil when running the cables into the housings.

    For the best quality parts and for the cheapest amount of money possible, this complete wiring kit designed for mountain, road, and hybrid bicycles is the best bang for your hard earned bucks That money can buy.

    You’re going to need a pair of cable and housing cutters for this kit to be completed and professionally installed like a pro. The kit comes complete with gearing lines for front and rear derailleurs as well as both front and rear braking lines. The kit includes two solid pieces of housing, one gauged for gearing, the other thicker one for braking. It also includes all of the housing ferrules and the cable end tab clamps to make a professional quality installation.

    The housing is simple: measure twice, cut once. Measure out one end what you’ll need, make your cut. Utilize the other end for your next piece of housing, measure, and cut. Eventually, your one piece of housing should be enough to do both lines of that kind. (i.e. two gearing housing lines from one housing, two brake housing lines from the thicker housing.)

    This kit even includes the three donut spacers per line to prevent exposed gearing or brake lines from rubbing and scraping the framework. It’s a great kit for the money.

    You can’t go wrong with this kit as long as you have the proper knowledge and tools needed for a proper installation. It’s definitely a well assembled kit. Five star quality for a two star price… Can’t beat it!

    Not a bad product for the price. But beware that the long shifter cable for the rear derailleur is about 100 mm shorter than indicated (at least the one I purchased), thus a two star ding. It is supposed to be 2100 mm and when I tried to install it on an 80s Motobecane that I am upgrading from down-tube shifters to bar end. It fell short and I could not trim the housing enough to make up the required length. I have two other bikes with bar end shifters and haven’t had this issue. So I measured this one. It was a crude measurement using a 300 mm ruler, but I did it carefully and found it to be 1980 mm. And even if I was +/- 20 mm, the longest it would be is 2000 mm, or 100 mm short. I now have to buy a new cable that is, in fact, 2100 mm or longer. I’ll probably get 2300 just to make sure – but it will be Shimano or Jagwire as I have more confidence their products will be the specified length. That is probably worth a third star ding since a single cable (no housing, no ferrules, no cable ends or guides) of either of those is more than half the cost of this entire set. In my case I’m routing the cable from the end of the drop bars, so I need the full 2100 mm. If you are using this for just about any other system, thumb, integrated, trigger, etc., you’ll probably have enough length even at 2000 mm.

    The media could not be loaded.

     I was worried about not having enough cable based on some of the reviews but the cables had over a foot of extra length to them and there was enough to do not only both derailleurs but the breaks as well. The only tools I used were a pair of needle nose pliers and some alien wrench to take off the cable from inside the derailleur switches and of the derailleur it self. I was able to snip the cable with the needle nose pliers but just barely. Over all I am very happy with how these cables came out and would definitely buy these again.
