This violin was of excellent craftsmanship quality and the sound was surprisingly clear.

Easy tuning, bridge was perfectly fit, exact spacing between the strings so you’re not hitting other strings while playing another!

Thank you! I bought this violin so that I can have an instrument to play on the go and at church and didn’t want anything too expensive- it’s a perfect fit! I will definitely purchase again! My daughter is learning to play and she needs her own. lol!!!

Let me preface this review by saying I am a music teacher, with 18 years of experience playing violin.

If you are looking for a good quality instrument, close Amazon and google your local luthier. You won’t find a good instrument online like this. However, if your goal is to simply test the waters, this is a good place to start!

I have a student who was struggling with a violin far too small for him. Sound quality became poorer as his fingers struggled to fit into the tight half steps, and his posture was being effected. While I can’t afford to hand out a $2,000 student instrument, this violin allowed me to size him up properly. If he continues to show interest, an intermediate quality instrument should be tested and tried locally.

As far as a “box” violin goes, this wasn’t terrible. It needed assembly, as the bridge isn’t in place (to be expected). The sound post somehow made it through the mail without being knocked down, so it is a matter of centering the bridge properly, using properly tuned string tension to hold it in place. For a teacher that is no big deal, but be aware that you don’t simply take an instrument out of the “box” and have it ready to use.

Great beginner starting kit, when cost or danger of being dropped prevents a good quality set up from being an option.

I was expecting to have to slowly replace parts to get a usable violin and for things to be made out of cheap alternatives to the material they’re suppose to have like the plywood violin with a plastic finger board I paid more for but I was shocked with how good the quality is for the price I paid.

I burned a piece of hair from the bow and it burned and smelled like hair unlike the plastic ones you get on cheaper violins, the finger board is made of ebony, not painted timber, the wooded tuning pegs are lubricated and the bridge is mostly shaped correctly but could us a little work on the legs but it doesn’t need much.

Other than the small pieces of material on the ends of each string to colour code which note it represents, there is not a single piece of plastic on the instrument it’s self unless the varnish contains some but I don’t know how to tell. The bow has a plastic sleeve over the metal wire, probable has a piece on the nut and end but I can’t tell if that’s what it is. The part of the bow that moves to adjust tension is made of ebony with a couple piece of what looks like shell and the way the light shining on it is beautiful.

It’s weaker side is the shoulder rest, it’s cheap, plastic and the way you put it on feels like it might cause damage so I wouldn’t recommend putting it on tight since the shoulder rest falling off once in a while is better than your violin opening up from the pressure being put on and removed from it over time but expecting a good one with the value you’re already getting is stretching it.

The case is nothing to write home about, it’s mostly polystyrene lined with cheap soft polyester fabric with a wooden lip for screws to go into and a polyester bad over it. It has a small compartment where you can put your rosin and extra strings once removed from the paper envelope, room for two bows and just enough room for the shoulder rest to sit along side of the neck.

The good part about it is that you can remove the screws and peel the bag off for cleaning but there is a little bit of melted polystyrene stuck to parts on the inside as if it might have been exposed to heat and it will be easier to remove the next time around.

I wasn’t too sure about the hygrometer so I removed it and yes it is real however the piece of glue holding the piece of plastic with the numbers was lose so it was able to move around which I was able to fix while it was out, it is also glued in so don’t remove it unless you can fix it.

If you’re just dipping your toes into the water and or don’t know if this is for you, I strongly recommend starting with this violin so you not only get everything you need without breaking the bank but you also get a genuine violin and not a VSO(violin shaped object).

Before you use it, you must install the bridge. The bridge goes on with the shorter side at the E string and the taller side at the G string in between the two marking on the F holes that point towards the bridge with string tension low. The bridge may also need to be straightened when you tighten the strings so make sure it doesn’t lean forward otherwise it might fall over making a loud snap and shooting out while you tune or play.

The tuning pegs will also need to pushed in farther for it to hold a tune and you’ll have to tune it multiple times to break in the new strings until they hold a tune. I’m not sure how good the strings are and know it will benefit from better ones but the stock ones are more than good enough to get started.

This is the violin I’m going to recommend to anyone who wants to get started with something extremely cheap that performs as it should out of the box.

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and appearance of the Aklot Violin. Solidly built with good wood and attractive parts, it really caught my eye. The finish is actually a paint job, but very nice to my taste. The bridge was easily installed, and wasn’t long till it was tuned and playable. That being said, when I change the strings to a better quality set…I’ll need to remove the pegs and give them a little TLC for better grip and tuning. The reddish brown color of the pegs, tailpiece and chinrest add a different dimension that are a pleasant change from the standard black fare. The bow is adequate, and the supplied rosin is boxed and of average quality. The case is of decent build with a hygrometer included for better monitoring of storage conditions. The provided shoulder rest is not very comfortable for me. However, for a child or beginning student it may work better. Overall, I’m very pleased with the Aklot violin and would certainly recommend it to any parent or new student looking for a budget level instrument to begin their journey. Enjoy!

This is an experimental “do you want to even stick with this instrument for a month” product. The quality was terrible. If you know you want to learn the violin, don’t start learning on this, the amount you’d have to tune the violin with the frame and starter strings will produce a sound you don’t want your ears accustomed to.

Came with strings, peg box, fine tuners, bridge all broken badly. Not sure what the seller was thinking. We definitely cannot call it a violin.

*** Amazing customer service, corrected the issue and my husband is now happily playing his new violin! In perfect shape and plays beautifully. Nice to see a seller backing their product and caring about the customer. Thank-you!

Even though it came in a hard shell case… the violin was cracked! Can’t even speak on how it plays because we never got to try.

Missing parts. Not good even for beginners. I can get a better one where I go for lessons.

The aklot violin. When I Bought this violin I was taking a leap of faith because it had no reviews and no stars and no review videos on YouTube. But when I got it I was surprised because of the great Quality!!❤️ This is a great beginner violin! Beautiful sound. As you will see in the pictures there is a hygrometer that was supposed to be in that little hole near the violin, but when I got it was out. It was no big deal to push it back in though. The Bridge of the violin was neatly rapped up at the bottom. And the extra strings are in little numbered bags. Here something you need to know that i wish i did as a beginner, all violins NEED rosin so work, so use sand paper to scratch up the Surface, then apply it gently to the bow at least 12 times (up-and-down motion). This was a great purchase and was very very worth it. I would highly recommend buying it.

    Thank you aklot

Was not expecting to have till out any of this together. You should not have to assemble any part of this fiddle.

The first thing I noticed upon opening the very substantial case was the beauty of this instrument. It has a solid spruce top and solid maple back and sides just like much higher priced violins cost. This instrument comes with a chin rest, and extra set of strings, rosin, the bridge, a hygrometer semi mounted in the case (a nice touch I think) and of course, the bow. The violin requires some set up which starts with tuning. I suggest that prior to tuning, you unstring one peg, remove the peg, sprinkle the tapered part liberally with rosin then replace the peg into the headstock and restring. This will keep the pegs from slipping in the holes while tuning, a stressful but common problem with all new violins. Do this one peg at a time. Consult YouTube for instructions to finish the set up.

The strings are low quality but easily and cheaply replaceable and after getting some experience and confidence tuning the instrument on the strings included, I suggested acquiring some name brand replacement strings. The chin rest is comfortable but may not work for everyone and replacements are readily available in music shops and online. Once the violin was set up and 10 to 15 minutes of applying rosin to the bow, I found it to be very playable and with a nice voice that will only improve over time, with higher quality strings. This Aklot instrument would be ideal for a travel violin, a former musician that wanted to get back into the game, a first time player just starting out or for a older, larger youngster as this is a full sized violin. For the money this beautiful spruce and maple instrument with a playable neck and nice voice is a smart choice.
