I purchased this case in 2014 and it’s been a great investment. The interior is lined with soft fabric that prevents scratches, and it has a mesh pocket for storing cables. I use a WD Elements 4TB HDD as a portable backup drive which goes home with me every night and returns to the office in the morning. This is a fairly hard case, one might categorize it as a rigid case but that is splitting hairs. This case looks to be made of a thin plastic shell covered by woven nylon fabric, a good zipper with a 1-1/8″ pull for the zipper, branded with “Amazon Basics” logo. The interior is a thin orange fabric on one side with 7/8″ wide black elastic band at midpoint to hold a HDD and a mesh pocket sewn into the opposite side, which is about 3/4 of the height and can easily hold a cable, several USB sticks, or other small items. The pocket is not large enough to hold another WD Elements HDD, it is too snug. The Elements HDD measures about 3-1/4″ X 4-3/8″ X 3/4″ thick. If you had a thinner HDD you may be able to fit it into the pocketed side. The hinge is fabric and looks like it would take a lot of wear, in fact, the case is well made and would take a lot of wear. BUT, there is no padding in this case, a shame because it would have made this much more useful. I deducted 1 star for no padding, however, if that isn’t important to you then this would be a 5 star case.
The HDD is held very snugly by the elastic band on one side of the case. There is about 1/4″ of space in the width and 3/4″ of space in the length around the HDD when in the case. I can’t measure the thickness left but can push on the face and get some give so you could conceivably have a thicker HDD, though the elastic band is already quite wide. I use this to simply carry the HDD in my briefcase to and from my office so I have an off site backup.
If I drop the case there is no padding to absorb any shock to the contents. I would not recommend using this by itself as a drop could damage the contents.
This was purchased to replace a Western Digital branded soft neoprene case I’ve had for about 10 years that is wearing out. This case would have been stellar had it had a cushioning system like a neoprene interior or other material used on so many phone cases, thin but resilient.

I have multiple external hard-drives, some of them are bulky and are meant to keep a backup at home. Some of them are smaller ones which I use to carry my photos and other files around with me while I am traveling or transporting data between home and office. Two of them are small 1TB and 2TB USB3.0 hard-drives. I wanted to buy a case for them.
After considering a lot of hard and soft cases from various sellers, I stumbled upon this and thought of giving it a try. And it was a wise decision !!! As I always say, Amazon Basics items are equivalent (if not better) to quality in other comparable items from different manufacturers and yet they are available at almost half the price (and sometimes even lesser than that).
I have many of the Amazon Basics items and I am not unhappy with any of them. And this is no exception.
A few good things:
1. The exterior is pretty hard and you can rest assured that your HDD will be protected even if this case is buried deep down in the luggage.
2. Soft interior makes sure that the HDD stays safe even if there is some pressure on it from other items in the luggage.
3. This case is made for HDD which do not require an external power because there is not much space inside for any adapter. However, there is a mesh pocket which can be used to store the USB cod safely.
4.Even if its hard and durable, the case is pretty light-weight and wont ad much weight to your luggage.
5. Although its advertised for Western Digital My Passport but it can be used to store other USB powered HDDs which are up to 5 inches in dimension. I have one of these for my Seagate 1 TB HDD.
6. It also has an elastic band to hold the HDD securely in the case while in use.
7. The zipper is of very good quality and will not fail on you anytime soon.
Cons:
The only disadvantage I can think of this case is that there is none. If I have to count one, I would say it would have been better had they made a small zipper pocket inside the case (which would be of great use to photographers like me to also store their memory cards in it while on a trip.
All in all, this is an excellent case at excellent price. AMAZONBASICS DOES IT AGAIN !!!!!
