I recently bought the KayaLuma LED Kayak Lights for my inflatable stand-up paddleboard (iSUP), and they’ve been a great addition. I originally got them for fun and to have on hand in case I decide to hit the water early in the morning or late in the evening.
The lights are compact and of good quality. They fit securely onto my deck bag with the built-in clips. The extra batteries are a nice touch, making sure I won’t run out of power anytime soon.
Overall, I’m really happy with these lights. They add an element of safety and visibility for those early or late paddling sessions, and they’re fun to use. Highly recommend them for anyone looking to light up their kayak or paddleboard.

So the exterior design of the unit was well done. Lights were very visible and on and off button was pretty easy to manipulate even with cold hands after a full day of kayaking. The means for affixing to PDF or a kayak is great in concept as well, but would recommend a small screw or locking hinge in order to lock the light to your PDF or kayak/paddle board rails. BUT the manufacturing design for sealing these lights and battery compartments is woefully inadequate for kayaking and water sports where direct and frequent exposure to water is the norm. Waterproof? Not even close.
With a single outting on the water, one light has already failed. Unacceptable and as a consequence I cant recommend to rafters, kayakers or paddle boarders who would want to use this for safety marking. In my case, the red light had some type of small defect in the lip of the light housing which caused it to not seal and adequately close. Not being familiar with how they waterproof and seal the battery and light compartment i had noted a really thin 1/2 inch long gap along the case but didnt think a lot about it given i assumed they used a rubber gasket to seal the upper and lower half of the unit. They claim its waterproof and for kayaking, boating ect… so a gasket would be logical right?
At sunset, when i went to use the lights, the white and green light worked but water had infiltrated the red light and caused it to fail. Coming back from my kayak trip, i used the provided screw driver to remove the screws and seperate the two halves. I was surprised to see that there was no rubber gasket between the two halves to seal the unit from water intrusion, its just a thin 1.5 mm wide plastic on plastic fitting.. Also noted the plastic to plastic lip that helps secure the upper and bottom half of the unit (at the end of the unit) was deformed slightly. I attempted a couple ways to try to get the unit to close properly but it wouldn’t secure. The two clasp surfaces cant be a millimeter to 1.5 mm each in size, which leaves inadequate surface area to have a solid and secure surface on the locking clasp. These two surfaces need to be at least double in size to have adequate surface area and allow for a solid and secure closure, especially over long term use.
In my inspection of these surfaces and the current failure, it made me consider and think about long term use of these lights given i am using them for safety and marking. As such I cant recommend this product.
If the manufacturer made the unit just a little wider all the way around the body of the top and bottom halves (with a frame lip 3 mm wider all around the circumference of each half?) they could get better surface area to allow for a larger clasp as well as inclusion of a rubber gasket to seal the top and bottom halves…
I am going to see what they say in my correspondence to them. They have the idea and concept right, it just needs to be a bit more robust and they need to intentionally include anti-water intrusion features which are critical for any electronics that are in and or around water. And yes, this would cost a little more but what i have now isnt usable sooo…?
If they enhance the design and anti water intrusion features i would defintely consider trying it out.

I used this for my kayak on the 4th of July. PERFECT! Comes with plastic bags and velcro straps to keep them dry and easy to attach and remove. The lights were plenty bright.
