Melissa –
I have two of these with a betta fish in each one. I have had these almost 2 years and am looking to replace them now. At first I really liked the tank. It’s small, lightweight (being acrylic) and I liked the blue lid. I read that some had experienced issues with the filter being too strong, but decided to give the tank a chance anyway since I had a friend that was already using these with her betta fish successfully. I have never had issues myself with the filter being too strong. I have not needed a heater for them as the water temperature has been fine without one. I’ve also not had problems with the lid or water getting too hot from the bulb. I have had to replace the bulb in each tank 2 or 3 times already, which feels like a lot to me. Granted, before this I had only ever had a few goldfish as a child so I had zero experience with tanks that use lights and filters before this so I may be expecting a longer life out of the bulbs than they are designed for. We only keep the light on during the day, turning them off at night for the fish to rest and have time without the light on. Another issue I see mentioned in the reviews is leaking. (The filter hangs on the side of the tank. Right near where the hook is on the filter is the location where the plug’s cord goes into the filter. Water leaks out at this location.) At first I didn’t have issues with this, but unfortunately that didn’t remain the case over time. After probably 6 months we began to have some leaking here and there, but not all the time and generally not that much. With time though, both the frequency and amount of leakage increased. In the last 6-9 months both tanks are to the point they they leak very consistently and can sometimes leak as much as half the tank in a 24 hour period. I have to keep a towel under the tanks at all times now and keep an extra eye on their water levels. Given the location of where the water leaks I am honestly shocked the filter hasn’t been fried. Perhaps I could purchase a different filter to use with these, but at this point I’m really just over messing with these and ready to replace them both.

After more than 6 months, this tank is downgraded from “Meh” to “Don’t Do It.”
The light failed about 2 months ago under normal use (a few hours a day).
The filter consistently shifts out of it’s seat and redirects the flow of water….. out of the tank! It caused water damage to my daughter’s dresser before we caught it. The lack of a switch on the pump is pretty problematic. The current is too strong during feeding times and pushes the pellets around, or down to the bottom of the tank where they get lodged in the gravel or pebbles.
Downgrading from 3 stars to 2. Fix the pump, Aqueon.
Pro’s:
Convenient, all in one kit that includes a pump, light and cover
Small form factor fits nearly anywhere
light is bright enough and gives off enough heat to raise the water temp a little
Convenient slits at front and back of cover for easy feeding
Con’s:
Pump doesn’t come with an on/off switch
Pump may be overpowered for this size tank: the recirculated water generates a pretty strong current, had to break it up with plants
Pump is kinda loud

We bought the 1 Gallon tank from Petco that’s a bit taller than this Aqueon tank. We needed another one and the one on Amazon was cheaper, so we bought it. Turns out we really like it better than the Petco one. The one from Petco is very loud, and any uneaten food drifts to the bottom and settles, so I’m having to clean the tank a lot. The Aqueon tank is super quiet! It also circulates the water in such a way that uneaten food gets moved around the tank so the fish can find it, blown off the bottom, and eventually into the filter (less cleaning of the tank). Our tank looks so clean compared to the Petco tank that was cleaned and filled at the same time as the Aqueon. The Aqueon tank comes with water conditioner (enough to fill the tank 3 times) and pet food, the Petco one did not come with any extras.
I wish we had just purchased two of the Aqueon tanks. Great starter tanks for young kids.

Before I ordered this tank I read the reviews and many people said that the current was strong but, I ordered it anyways because it looks like a nice little tank and I needed a tank with a filter.
Just received it today, I set it all up, and it looks great! My Betta has a heater, I was able to squeeze in the heater’s cord with the filter’s cord in the little slot on the side.
The current is strong but, I filled it up high enough to ease the current.
I ordered a big enough statue to also slow down the current, I haven’t received it yet though and I’ll update my review when I do.
My Betta eats flakes, so I do have to turn the filter off when I feed him or all of his food goes all over his tank.
The filter does work wonders though, when he is done eating, I turn the filter back on and it sucks up every single flake left over!
Overall, I am happy with this tank.

I’ve had about 5 of these in my years of having Bettas. It’s a great tank. Easy to clean. Great quiet filter. Feed hole. The light works good and is easy to change with screwdriver. Filters last about 3-4 weeks. Good size. I wouldn’t buy any other betta tank. Best thing about this one compared to others is that the filter is small and in the corner of the tank so there is a lot of room for decor.

I am using this tank for a Betta which is a fairly clean fish. Since I bought this tank 3 months ago, it has overflowed twice. And since I keep it on the top of my son’s bookshelf that means it has damaged his books. The filter clogs VERY easily and since it lays flat at the top of the tank, the water backs up and pours over the side. I keep my tank clean and find this filtration problem extremely ridiculous. I’m ready to drop an air stone in the tank and completely remove the filtration. Considering the price of this tank, it’s a waste of money!!

Arrived right on time and was very quick and see to set this up. This 1G tank can fit at most 4 small, and I do mean small, decorations. Anymore then that will over crowd the tank. it’s wonderfully quiet and the light is bright but not too bright. The current from the current is gentle as can be, which is great for a little beta fish. Beta fish are notorious jumpers so a lid for the tank is a MUST This is a great tank I would think for a small apartment, dorm suite, or a kid that wants a pet fish. If you don’t want a beta you’d probably fit a few guppies, but not too many. But I wouldn’t suggest this tank for a goldfish honestly since goldfish are so messy. I am currently just running the tank on a cycle to ready it for the fish.
UPDATE:
So it should be noted that while the current is gentle the filter funnel needs to be blocked off a bit by plants or some ornaments to protect the betta fish. Cause of that one thing it’s down to 4/5 stars, but it’s still a very nice tanks. Pepper, my male Veil Tail Beta fish is settling well and is happily making bubble nests. I had to move the plants around a bit but that’s no problem really. This is still a good tank for a beginner or child, just keep in mind the suction in the funnel still seems a tiny bit strong so take measures to make it safe for your fish by blocking it off with a few ornaments or plants. Be sure to invest in a sticker thermometer, not a glass one since there won’t be room for it. Try and keep the water at about 23’C – 25’C, that a little bit above room temperature since beta fish are TROPICAL fish, they make their homes in the tropical parts of Asia and Thailand. Choosing ornaments that won’t hurt the fish is important too, so don’t be scared to take your time looking; silk plants or live plants are ideal.
