Nicely made, but supplied mpiece too stuffy. They’re okay w/ mixing wooden barrels “non-returnable modifications to fit Alpha synth” @ inflated prices!
Try Leblanc Debut w/Vandoren mp OR RCP ebonite clarinet for less than Backun Alpha. That’s what I went with!

Compared to entry/beginner level synthetic (non granadilla) wood clarinets from Selmer, Yamaha, and Buffet, the Backun Alpha is; much lighter, thinner barrel than the others, very responsive in tonality, excellent quality of keywork and materials, and excellent articulation without being harsh. Cork/tenon joints need to be expertly fitted as with most all brand new clarinets at any level. The mouthpiece, if included, is useless. It is worth using one’s own favorite mouthpiece.
Each of the “synthetic” or “mixed grenadilla synthetic” beginner/intermediate clarinets have thier own unique tonalities/sounds and also play and feel different. The only way to find what one likes the best is to try them all, or buy them all.

All weather use., moist to hot. Backup clarinet to 2 wooden clarinets. This is a light, free blowing super fast clarinet for pop and jazz if you have a jazz mouthpiece and a flashy ligature. It’s voicing is similar to the MOBA. I would have bought this first but I didn’t. The case is small but it can be easily stashed on an airplane cabin. Smells like a burnt tire but that is only in 100 degree heat. I did not use the ligature and mouthpiece. Great for Oktoberfest gigs. Got a great discount by phone.
