Rachel Feltman hat mit „Been There Done That“ ein tolles Buch geschrieben. Auch als Nichtmuttersprachlerin versteht man das Buch sehr gut. Man muss schmunzeln, man lacht und lernt dabei viele neue und spannende Sachen.
Auch das Hörbuch (das sie übrigens selber spricht) ist absolut hörenswert.
Große Empfehlung!

This book was an easy read and very informative seasoned with a splash of humor. Rachel knows her stuff and how to present it.

You know you are in for an interesting book when you are on page two and you learn “that only 3 percent of male birds have dicks,” They are not alone, there are many creatures out there who do not genitals that we think of as being traditional instead having a cloaca. I also learned that clownfish are all born male but some “are lucky enough to turn into females.”
In the beginning, she does talk about the animal kingdom, genitals, or lack thereof, mating practices, and sexual cannibalism in certain species. But she then turns to mankind, where she discusses pretty much the same thing – mating practices, when marriage occurred (around 2350 BC in Syria), reproduction, sex, ancient sex toys (bees in a canister), porn (ancient and modern), etc.
There is a lot of information in here and it is presented in a often funny light hearted way. Seriously love letters about farting during sex. I laughed like a fool. Seriously between the unusually large duck penis and ode to farting, I couldn’t stop smiling. The Author did extensive research, and I enjoyed her approach to writing this book.
Did I learn some things – interesting trivia mainly but I found this to be an entertaining, informative and fun read. In the words of George Michael “Sex is natural. Sex is fun.” So is this book!
Neil Bradshaw –
A book you dip in and out of. Not “unputdownable” by any means.

Ok psychologist here. I was intrigued by the book title and it sounded like it would be a fun read. Decided to get the audio version and glad I did because the author is a stellar narrator and made even the dryer material a little less dry. The author is a scientific write and this book is packed with solid scientific data and historical fact in a way that both informs and entertains the reader (or listener in my case). More importantly I see this as a important adjunct for any course in Human Sexuality, Biology of Sex or similar – your students will thank you! I hope we see more from this author.

I loved this book. The information is fascinating and it helps to show how culture, not nature or science, shapes what we view about the rights and wrongs of sex, gender, and monogamy. It is well and humorously written. My favorite part is when the author discusses a study that led her to write an article with the angle that researchers were attempting to understand why male humans exist, given that the default gender.
I would not hesitate to buy another book by this author. I love her style.

I would rate this book 3 1/2 stars out of 5.
If you just went off the introduction section of this book you would be ready to dive into this book to see what information the author would have next about everyone’s favorite subject “Sex”. But sadly, that is not the case in my opinion. Not to take anything away from the author because I will give her that this book is packed with information, and I would say well researched but at the first 25% of that book was like reading a scientific textbook. It did get a little bit better but not much in my opinion. I did find Cleopatra method of getting there by using a jar full of bees interesting. As well as the chastity belt that was to prevent you from getting stimulated, man what an evil device. And last but not least the man reason John Harvey Kellogg developed corn flakes because what put pressure on a prostrate. Sorry you will have to read it to see what it is. I had hoped this book would have gotten better as you moved along but it was a little better than average with all the information.

This was the book I needed at 16 and I still needed it today at 26. First of all, Rachel Feltman is hilarious. Second, I think I have a pretty open mind but this book was such a nice reminder and validation that nothing is really that weird. I wish I could go back in time and give this book to teenage me who was TERRIFIED of my own body and mind in regards to sex.
SUCH a good read. 5/5.

I got the audible version of this book, and if you can GET THAT VERSION. Rachel Feltman, who by the way is on a podcast “Weirdest thing I learned this week”, has an amazing voice and keeps all this information easily digestible and interesting. This book has an amazing pace and never lulls too long on disinteresting material. It allows you to learn a great deal and research more on your own time if something strikes your fancy. I’m honestly disappointed I’ve finished the book and she has no others as of yet. Absolutely love this book!

This book gives an overview of sexuality in the animal kingdom. Some people say that homosexuality or trans sexuality are not “natural” but this book documents that sexuality in the animal kingdom is much more fluid than we might have imagined. Told with both a refreshing frankness and the sense that human judgement is often misdirected in sexual matters.
