Youtube

This saxophone was brought into my school by a student’s parent wondering if it would be ok for a beginner use in 4th grade. I do not advise buying this for the young beginner. There was another choice she presented and that was a Selman alto saxophone (not Selmer) and that was a better choice of the two saxes.
I have been a saxophonist for 40+ years and a band director for 30 years. I started on a Bundy 2 (II) alto saxophone like many of us did in the 1980’s. The keys were designed for smaller hands on the Bundy II. This is not designed for smaller hands. Most band directors spend valuable lesson time taping shut palm keys and side keys so when the kids bump the keys it does not affect the notes as much. Never had to do that on my Bundy or on most Yamaha YAS-23 type alto saxes.
The pads had a weird texture to them. Most leather pads have a shine to them to seal the leather and make it more durable. These had a matte finish to them. I suspect that these “leather” pads will not last as long as one might think.
The corks underneath the keys was cut poorly. For example, under the adjustment screws for the right hand stack. There are two round screws that are supposed to have round cork embedded in them or a nylon foot. There were just square pieces of cork stuck on as if you were doing a quick fix to make it through a concert or football game. Because they are bigger than the screws, they will become detached easily which will create another major problem when going to play low notes.
And that is the major concern with the sax…the low notes gurgle. Even though I checked the entire sax for leaks and even reseated pads it still gurgles on low C, C sharp, and B. Not so much on the low B flat. The only way that it does not gurgle is if I take in way too much mouthpiece and play very loudly on those few low notes. This occurs when using the mouthpiece that came with the instrument and when using another mouthpiece like a Yamaha 4C which is standard.
There are bent keys on the Right had side key notes (the High E key), bent key guards (chromatic or fork F#), keys out of alignment (the B and A keys sit much lower than the G key), and bent adjustment table for the low C sharp key screw (it does not line up with the screw).
The octave key throw is way too much for a little thumb either. It’s safe to say that the distance that it should move is about 1/4 inch. This is more like 1/2 inch without measuring. It makes crossing over the break from C to D very awkward.
With $150 worth of work this would be ok for a high school student looking to use it as a marching band instrument with the intent of disposing of it after a season or two rather than taking their good instrument outside. But the pitch tendency is very sharp so you would end up fighting with the instrument to keep it in tune with others. You would have to pull out the mouthpiece so far that it would be wobbling or fall off the neck. There are better choices available.

Recomiendo 100%
