I connected the unit and was able to connect it to the app. After connecting to the app it only works when my phone is close to the unit. Not sure what’s happening but it is only working that way or with push button. Wifi is useless so far. Even when I’m close enough to connect with my phone, the app doesn’t even have an on/off button.

The installation process was simple and straightforward, however even with a strong wifi network signal the system goes offline all the time and does not trigger the scheduled service. Not sure if it’s a defective device but will have to replace
Update: the seller contacted me and sent me instructions on app set up and it’s now working like a charm. I’m now able to connect it to my google and use voice command to turn it on and off.
No BS reviews –
The transformer works perfectly and my patio lights are on a timer. Happy with it, recommended.
That said, trying to get it going via the app and instructions was interesting to say the least. Wish international companies took the time with AI to get their act together with translations. The app is weak too.

I gave this timer five stars because mainly it’s worth it. I bought this very solid unit to replace an identical timer that finally gave out after about 15 years. So I’m pretty sure you won’t regret purchasing this one.
HOWEVER, the manufacturer has unnecessarily complicated installation by making the screw-in connections too small for decent-gauge wire. Your wire will be strand (not solid), and you will need to twist the freshly stripped wire as tight as possible, insert into the too-small opening, and hope most of the wire seats properly without bunching up and fraying.
Like I said, it’s a design flaw, and they’ve had years to fix it. That part is a fail.
Snowman –
I purchased this unit to replace an old 12 volt transformer. I installed this new one and was immediately surprised by it being completely silent (at least to my hearing), compared to a significant hum from my old unit. This is obviously newer technology, but really notable for it’s silence.
Hooking this up couldn’t be easier – although the instructions cite one 12 volt and one 14 volt tap, mine is labelled with two 12 volt taps. In my case I only need one tap so just connected to one of them and the unit worked the first time. From the manual and other feedback I have read, apparently these two connections operate together, so you cannot set them up separately.
Connecting it to WIFI was also quite simple and self-explanatory through the dewenwils iPhone app. although after installation it did work once and then freeze for a while and I couldn’t turn off the lights through the app. After a few minutes (I didn’t do anything) everything started working again and continues to a full day later, so perhaps this was just an internal system setup glitch. Setting up the on/off time is a bit weird, but if you follow the small manual it isn’t difficult, just unusual. I have noted others struggled to get it WIFI working on this unit – two points: be sure you are on 2.4 GHz and be sure you move the little antenna on top of the unit to the vertical position. I am connected through a wall, but admittedly the WIFI router only needs to work through that one wall.
Setting up the google home was also pretty simple though the app (the little instruction book isn’t too helpful on this point), and the one thing that I would have like to know in advance is that dewenwils doesn’t connect through their own device vendor on google, but rather used “Tuya Smart”. Once you know that it is pretty straightforward to get everything working as with most other devices (very similar to “Smart Life” hardware installs). The only oddity is that once installed I had two items appear in my google home app withe either achieving the same switching action (I won’t go into it further here, but I just named one a useful name and everything works fine).
On the app – there are three things that I would welcome in the next update …
1) Change the software switch on position to be named “ON” and not OPEN (which implies off)
2) Change the software switch off position to be named “OFF” and not CLOSED (which implies on)
3) Update – there is a sunset and sunrise clock you can use in the Scenes section of the pone app. It would be nice if these could also be used in the schedule section of the app if it continues to exist (it is unclear why there is a schedule section at all since you can set separate set of scene commands for each device.
One last point – dewenwils cite this as an ETL tested product, but nowhere on the documentation or unit is there a sticker or citation for this testing. I reached out to dewenwils and within 24 hours they sent me the actual ETL test, and then I looked it up on the actual ETL site (item TLA-200-12W-1) which showed that it is in fact tested to meet the appropriate UL standard. If you look it up yourself, you will see that the tested internal components are made by another company, but are nevertheless tested. It is strange that dewenwils doesn’t mark this important safety certification on the unit directly but does cite the FCC approval which is much less important (about radio wave interference).

I saw other reviews saying the WIFI is horrible, I have to disagree. I have my box hanging on the outside of my house. My WIFI router is two walls, a floor and a brick veneer away from it. I haven’t had any issue with it not working when Alexa tells it to turn off and on. So, I’ve not had any issue with the Wifi. Any further than that, and even our phones start having trouble picking it up. It does have a nice feature, if one of your lights get shorted out it will turn itself off. The app says something like “overload protection” and you have to manually turn it back on at the box after you fix the problem. That’s a bit more convenient than frying it having to buy another one because something strange happened with your wiring.

I changed my old transformer out for my front landscape lighting. Use this one. It worked perfect easy to install. Good quality. Great instructions on how to wire everything up the timer or photo sensor or timing was really easy to do. I would highly recommend this product if you are putting up your own landscape lighting

I replaced my existing landscape lighting transformer with this one and I’m very pleased. Works great. Once you download the Dewenwils app for your phone, it’s a “set it and forget it” type thing. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it does not have a setting for turning the lights on at dusk and turning them off at sunrise. That’s the only drawback for me. Also, make sure the location where you install it has a good Wi-Fi signal. It has to connect to your home network to function.
