Got a budding flutist in your family tree? Well, give them a Fesley and let the symphony begin. And, I mean it! My granddaughter, who’s just about to trade her summer fun for homework and pop quizzes, has decided to pick up the flute. Nothing like an unexpected, exciting turn of events, huh?
So, of course, Bubbe went on a mission. This Fesley flute was my treasure at the end of that search. It’s a real goldilocks of an instrument – just right for beginners yet capable of keeping the pros engaged.
Now, I won’t get into the nitty-gritty of it, like how it’s made of white copper or how the keys are carved – all those finer points are way over my head, and let’s be honest, they won’t mean a thing if the flute doesn’t live up to its promise.
But here’s the thing – it did! The moment this flute arrived, we knew we’d hit the jackpot. The first time my granddaughter blew into it, it didn’t make a rich or melodious sound. After all, it was the first time she’d touched a flute. I’m sure it will get better over time.

I love that this flute comes with everything you need to begin playing. The case is of a nice quality, and makes it super easy to carry everything back and forth to lessons, etc.
The flute itself has a warm tone and the keys are balanced so they press with very little effort, and are comfortable to use. There’s lubricant also included so you can maintain the quick action of the keys.
Mine did not come with the black caps for the ends, though I think I like the metal ends a bit better anyway. Since I’m not learning as an elementary school child, the end protectors might not be quite as necessary!
The lightness made it pretty simple to hold and keep steady as I learned the fingering. Balance can be a bit difficult with a flute because the fingers you support it with need to be raised and moved as you play – there’s a fine line there that comes with some practice.
Overall, this is a great little instrument, and will be a perfect start for a beginner – child or not!

I don’t have a lot of musical experience or background and none in the world of fluting. Flute music is absolutely beautiful but intimidating. I like this set because it gives you everything you need to start and at a great price.
The case it comes in is nice and has dedicated areas for each flute part. The zippered compartment holds the extras like gloves, cleaning cloth, etc.
I did have to search how to put the flute together and how to use my breath to get a sound. Even if it came with instructions I’d look up online. The sound seems to be good when I get it right. I can’t compare being that it’s my first flute. I’m very happy with everything about it. It’s a good value especially for someone like me that just wants to dabble in learning a new instrument.

This is great! I bought this one on a review and recommendation on Youtube. My main reason for buying it: I want to keep a “kitchen flute” for practicing (not my Pro-model that I play on gigs), out on the stand-peg all the time, to be able to quickly pick it up and practice at any time. With my other Yamaha student flutes, they always turn dark from tarnish by leaving them out. So this is a great solution! The flute plays just fine. It’s definitely only “student quality” in construction and tone, but intonation is good throughout, and it plays throughout the chromatic range right out of the box. No worries about the black and gold version tarnishing!
