I actually own a couple more G4Free backpacks and I like them a lot. This one is slightly smaller, it comes in good size to fit in overhead bins and in the luggage sizing bins. There is actually a sleeve inside for a laptop or for an insert to add rigidity and on the outside there is a zippered pocket and side mesh pockets on both sides. The material is pretty tough, actually better than the material in my other backpacks, and it folds into a small tote which can be used to store it so it doesn’t take up much space when not in use or used as a small packing cube for all your electronics or toiletries for example.
It is not perfect though, the improvements I would suggest are:
    – A chest strap
    – A pocket or other way to tuck away the shoulder straps when not in use so they won’t snag
    – A way to lash down the top such as a strap which comes over the top with an adjustable buckle. Currently it is just held closed by the zipper.
    – A tougher material on the bottom which won’t wear easily when you set it down on the floor and is easy to clean
With these changes it would be a great ultralight travel backpack, which can be used as a tote bag also and stores small. I am contemplating making these modifications myself to use it in an upcoming trip.

We recently went to Europe on a trip and spent a great deal of time walking around with backpacks. This would’ve been perfect for that. It’s roomy enough for a jacket and everything you’d need for a day trip, but it’s nylon and lightweight so as to not be too cumbersome. It also folds up nicely, fitting into an included bag that clips out of the way on the inside when the bag is being used. The top zips closed for security and it has a couple pouches on the outside for water bottles, etc. The straps are comfortable and adjustable, but if you don’t want to wear it, you could also carry it as a bag with the top straps. It’s definitely roomy enough to be used as an overnight bag, also.

A great backpack/bag to use for daily activities or going to the store. Very well made. The purchase I should have made a while ago – I would have saved money from all the other backpack/bags I bought. Serves a lot of purposes for me.

    The good:
    – The color is stupendously vibrant. I love the peacock color, it’s easy to spot from a distance and pleasant to look at.
    – Material is decent. It’s not going to be your new hiking backpack, but it’s good for light travel and going about your daily business.
    – Packs down quite small into an included pouch
    – It’s pretty roomy! Definitely enough for a weekend bag or a gym bag
    – The handles and backpack straps give you options for carrying it

    Things I’d change:
    – there’s really one interior compartment. I’d love a little more division inside for organizing.
    – I wish the pouch it packed into was built into the bag rather than carabinered to an inside loop
    – While it looks like a roll top bag (part of what appealed to me) there is no way to secure down the top at all—no buckles or buttons or even Velcro strips—and I’d love some way to tighten the top down over the contents

Mind you, these elements are visible in the product listing so it’s no surprise if you paid more attention than I did before ordering.

And I’m quite happy with it, especially at the price (currently $20.24 after a coupon). This will be something I use regularly even with the preference of some changed features.

4/5 exceeds my expectations a bit for the price.

I got this G4Free 40L Packable Travel Backpack because I liked the simple look and seemed like a great thing to bring on trips. It packs down small and can be opened up into a good size bag in case you are overpacked on the way home. For that purpose it does the job and can hold quite a bit. It has some additional features like a strap to sit on top of rolling luggage, a front pocket, a divider inside and mesh water bottle pockets on either side.

The pack itself feels decently durable. Not amazing materials but seems like a sturdy ripstop nylon. It’s probably water resistant for a light rain, but not waterproof and seams are not sealed. There are a few things that could be a little better. It is styled like a rolltop bag but the top flap is just loose and doesn’t actually roll down and clasp or anything. This may help a little with water resistance, but the top just kind of flops around.

The bag does pack down relatively small, but you need to carry the small bag that it packs into as well. I wish it packed into itself so you didn’t have to carry a secondary bag with it. And with it packed down it is small, but in the grand scheme of things still takes up a bit of room and weighs almost a pound. There are backpacks similar in size that pack down smaller and weigh less than half as much. I guess it depends on exactly what you’re looking for, but this backpack is neither a true comfortable day pack nor an ultralight travel backpack, it is somewhere in between.

All that said, I do think the bag is functional and does pack down as it is supposed to. It feels like it should hold up decently well and I wouldn’t be worried dragging it around the airport and shoving it under the airplane seat or up in the overhead compartment. I’m not entirely sold on the use case of this for me, but this does what it is supposed to and if you are okay with something that sits halfway between a day pack and an ultralight travel pack, this may be a good choice.
