When you want to pinch off a hose they don’t lock at a tight point. They release to the next tightest lock point and then the hose just continues to drip. I also found that the lever is quite easy to release if touched, even lightly, when working near the tool. I did find a solution by using a wire tie to hold it in place. But I really shouldn’t have to.

Have been using them on smaller fuel lines on lawn equipment. They are quick, simple and easy to use.
Well built, they should last for a long time.

Good quality. Not Snap on quality, but good enough.

Larger than I expected, this is almost the size of electricians’ pliers. It can probably be used, with caution on small lines on mowers, but may be better suited for larger or stiffer hoses. I don’t know when I might need this tool but I use smaller ones all the time. Its closure teeth are well-made for the application of even pressure. Buy this if you have larger hoses to clamp off.

Wären die Zangenbacken gerade zu einander und nicht gewinkelt, wäre es die perfekte schlauchzange, für große dicke Schläuche ungeeignet man weiß nie ob die gegenseite richtig geschlossen ist

I was replacing a pump in in a hydronic heating system. I needed to clamp off 3/4 heater hose. I bought the cheaper plastic sets of 3(2 sets). The largest clamp would not pinch off the hose. Not a good time to find this out. I had to stop the repair long enough to order these metal professional clamps. These were more expensive but…they work! And work great.

I ordered the gear wrench 145 and the Cal Van 16000. Both are very similar, but have some differences. The Gear Wrench right away looks like a more expensive too. Not better, just more expensive. It has rubber on the handle, is all black, etc. The gear wrench also self opens, the Cal Van doesn’t. You have to manually open it. Advantage gear wrench. The gear wrench makes more noise. The parts on the end – the clamps, are on looser. The Cal Van hardly rattles and seems to have slightly tougher tolerances. Advantage Cal Van. The gear wrench opens slightly wider. Very slight. I’ll call it a draw because it’s not significant enough to give it a greater capacity. At a certain point with both of these wrenches you need to step up to a larger wrench for larger hoses. Finally the gear wrench is made in Taiwan. The Cal Van is assembled in the USA with global parts. Now for me that’s advantage Cal Van. Between the two it really comes down to self opening vs assembled in the USA. The self opening might wear out or break at some point I don’t know. Both appear to be well made and should last a long time – I am hoping. You can’t go wrong with either tool I don’t think. The gear wrench does advertise a lifetime warranty, but with all warranties ask yourself are you really going to take the time to get another? Did you save the receipt? Etc. most of us will just buy another wrench.
With that said after using them both neither stopped the flow 100% out a 5/8″ hose. I ended up using a plug.
