Pros: 7200rpm, 1TB storage, extremely cheap compared even to Western Digital’s Caviar Blue, which I had ordered previously. That drive had trouble completing the windows installation and eventually S.M.A.R.T. was saying to replace the drive, so I ordered this as a replacement. Windows 7 64-bit installed within 9 minutes, no trouble so far. Owned for about 3 months now. Works well.
Cons: None so far

This drive is pretty fast on default settings, but it also runs hotter and louder than my Se@gate drive. To reduce the clicking noises I just set AAM (automatic acoustic management) to the quietest setting using Crystal Disk Info. Now it’s just a tad louder than my other drive. Still runs a little hotter, but not enough to be problematic. Also note that compared to my 3.5″ Se@gate drive this drive is taller (note, this means this is just a regular sized 3.5″ drive instead of a shorter-than-usual 3.5″ drive). Given the chance to buy again, I would opt for spending a little more to get a little better quality.
May be a deal-breaker for some: when the drive is initially speeding up, it emits a shrill whining noise that is VERY agitating. When it hits it’s full speed the sound either goes away, or hits a frequency so high I can’t hear it. Not sure which it is.

I ordered one of these 1GB drives to set up a RAID array. The first one was 500GB so that would severely limit the size of the array. So I sent it back for a replacement. The second one was actually what I ordered! Yay! Only it had immediate and obvious failures. As soon as I hooked it up and booted my machine it did the classic ‘whir and click’ that indicates mechanical failures. Obviously I’ll be returning that one as well. I will be avoiding this seller from now on and would advise others to do the same.

You can’t beat this deal.
The hard drive is designed for heavier use.
Do your research in tech journals and tech magazines & sites reviews, Review the customer reviews but do not rely on the customer reviews.
I buy a Roswell External Case with a fan and install the internals. Vantech also offers an external case with a fan. This set up has worked a lot better for me than buying a straight up external Hard Drive.
##
I am suspicious of how well the externals actually cool the HD without a fan even though they claim to be able to dissipate the heat.
Avoid the all manufacture External Green Drives, I have had problems in the past with them.
##
On a side note: I bought a number of WD My Books when they first came out. There was no fan unit and they would get very hot,
I had over 5 WD My Books die on me fairly soon after the warranty period. WD is not much help in tech support or helping to retrieve data. It cost a fortune to take it to a computer shop and get it done .After that I vowed to never buy another WD HD even though they are an industry leader,
I have not tried the WD internals, but after my disappointment with so many My Books dying, I am avoiding them
You are supposed to be able to transfer you data off a broken one through sata, once you can get the WD open which is not easy.
I believe WD now owns Hitachi. They have let Hitachi still build on their existing technology.

It does make a bit of noise, but I have a SSD as primary so It’s not a big deal.

This is a high quality drive for a bargain price. Obviously the drive is not current generation technology, it is 5 years old. However, this is an enterprise class drive capable of heavier duty than standard desktop drives. It is SATA2 so there’s no need to go buying SATA3 cables (though it won’t hurt) – you’ll get it’s maximum performance with a plain old SATA2 motherboard/connector/cabling.
Being older technology, the drive is a bit bulkier and heavier than current drives. This drive does also run a bit hot – so put it in a case with decent fans/cooling. However, performance is very good and again, you will not find newer drives of comparable quality for the bargain price being offered here.
I purchased mine (3 of them) through Aeon and they pack the drives excellently. UPS/USPS can play football with the package and the drives would still be fine. Great job!

++ENVIO — 1/5
El HDD coincidรญa con la descripciรณn. Vino en una caja abollada y rota por la parte lateral. El interior lo rellenaron con trazas de cartรณn y el articulo en el interior, sin ninguna protecciรณn adicional.
++ESTADO —1/5
++RESUMEN —1/5
Una decepciรณn total, me aseguraron desde la empresa de origen que estaba en perfectas condiciones para ser usado, pero el transporte ha sido una verdadera vergรผenza. Quiero pensar que tuve mala suerte.

Pros: Cheap. Stores my data.
Cons: Noisy/Loud.
Comments: I bought this HDD because it was cheap for 1TB. It works fine and has plenty of storage. My only complaint is that it makes a lot of noise when it is being read from or written to. I have only had this hard drive for 2 days and I am already annoyed by the amount of noise it makes. If you are suring the internet it will be quiet, but if you are doing stuff like watching movies or listening to music that is stored on this drive, it will make a lot of noise. Maybe I just got a defective one; I don’t know.
My recommendation if you are looking at this product is to just spend the extra $10-$20 and get a Western Digital. I bought this because it was cheap, and cheap is what I got.

An incredible value, even at just 1TB. This drive has been running fast and well enough, with only one problem.
Its incredibly loud.
It is very audible when running any sort of file operation even with anti-vibration mounting. To rectify this, you can run any sort of acoustic management and not impact performance all that much. However, not everyone has the expertise to do this, and if you don’t I can’t really fully recommend this drive. The price is really great and the drive seems reliable though.
