I bought this because the last light I purchased caused massive algae growth which was impossible to control. This unit provides great light, brings out the color of the fish like never before, and has a useful day-to-night color change cycle that seems to make the fish much more energetic.

Would not recommend purchase of any of these. they are not water proof its a lie. the plastic on the front isnt even sealed. Theres nothing but a piece of plastic stopping any water from shorting it out, they could of easily coated the led’s with silicone to make them actually water proof but they skimped and just said it was water proof. THERES ABSOLUTELY NO WAY this is IP rated in any way other than the lowest ip rating there is.

This light looks and grows plants very well. The ability to adjust the brightness of the light is great, 20 different settings from ultra dim to bright. The function to change light colors is interesting, i can’t imagine anyone aside from children actually wanting the tank to look like that though.
-1 star for the timer functionality. Not very customizable friendly. You must set the timer to stay on in 6 hour, 8 hour or 12 hour increments. there is also no clock, so whatever time during the day you initially program the 6,8 or 12 hour timer, that is when it begins, and when it will turn on the following day. This is irritating because if wanting to adjust schedule to a time in the past, need to wait until the next day.
-1 star for the default power option. I use a Wifi socket timer for all my tank lights, so I can turn them on/off remotely. If you turn said socket off, light stays OFF, despite turning it back on with wifi socket. Restoration of power etc., or flipping power strip switch, all does the same thing. You have to manually “click” the power button on the controller in order for it to go back on. Frustrating because that means you are stuck with the devices default timer settings and cannot customize any further with wireless sockets, power strips, or in event of power outage, the settings are off.

For now, I’m using this light as a supplement alongside a Fluval Plant 3 over a tall planted tank with pressurized CO2. In time, I will probably move this over to a different, simpler tank, but initially I wanted to be able to compare it to a fixture I’m already familiar with.
Pros
-Can adjust intensity to suit the tank’s needs. It’s easily bright enough for a medium light planted tank, maybe more if ran at full intensity, but I always stick to <75% on LED fixtures. That's pretty common in the hobby and in theory, leads to longer-lasting lights.
-DIY mode allows you to adjust individual colors to achieve the color temp you want.
-Brackets are completely (and easily) removeable. Not every manufacturer offers that, and it can be critical if you’re mounted the light inside a canopy.
Cons
-Mode Key – This is just a bad idea and can stress fish. I wish they didn’t include this option. Slowly fading to a dim blue is one thing, but sudden changes in light color and/or unnatural colors for the whole cycle are not healthy for your fish. Most people wouldn’t want their room lights like this either, and would likely be stressed if they had to live in constant red, purple, orange etc lighting.
-The timer is a big missed opportunity, and something Hygger has done better on other fixtures. The 6/8/12hr options (no clock) are okay, but offer no opportunity for fading in and out. It also resets if you have more than a blip in power, requiring a reset be performed AT THE TIME YOU WANT THE LIGHT CYCLE TO BEGIN. To be fair, they mention the reset issue on the product page, but it’s a needless hassle. For example, suppose you ran an 8hr cycle from 11am to 9pm. If you work outside the house all week and have a power outage on Monday, you’d be unable to properly reset the timer until you have a day off.
Still on the topic of the timer, this is the only light fixture I have that can’t be controlled by an external timer. If you’re accustomed to using a smart plug or timer to control your lights, look elsewhere, as this light will not turn on automatically when power is restored. The tank I currently have this fixture on is a ‘high-tech,’ largely automated setup, and this fixture does not mesh well in that regard.
All in all, I feel this light is a decent value provided you’re not put off by the limitations. At 1/2-to-1/3 the price of more feature filled fixtures, it still provides the most important features: good intensity and ability to blend colors. It doesn’t have anything approaching the feature set I’m accustomed to, but given the price, I’m still happy with it. If you have a straightforward setup and the timer limitations don’t bother you, this light might be all you need.

Very simple plug and play light with a timer. The spectrum of the light is very pleasing to the eye. I recommend turning down the green down 5-7 notches and leaving the rest at 100%. I also recommend purchasing two units if you have a wide aquarium. They’re affordable enough that you’ll be happy you did. The feet are a little unstable sliding too easily but they do hold the light considerably higher above the water which is very nice.

Easy setup, nice product especially for the price. Metal brackets came in a little crooked but I bent them straight n I’m pretty happy always with hygger products!!
