I love everything about this feeder. The design is unique and has added a bright touch of color and visual interest to a corner of my garden which needed it. It could not have been easier to set up. I had doubts before ordering as to whether it would really be sturdy, and especially whether the hood would really keep the food (dried meal worms) dry. Well, it has been raining for several days here, and not a drop of water has touched the feeding platform! I’ve checked every day and so far it’s all high and dry. I’m amazed and impressed. Feeder damage in my yard is mostly always critter-related but so far there has been none with this feeder. They don’t actually seem interested in it at all. However, the few Carolina wrens I’ve had visit my yard definitely are interested. They have finally discovered the feeder and settled in. Hoping to attract more of them was my main reason for putting up this feeder and so far it looks to be a success!! I’m really pleased.

Bluebirds come to the feeder without hesitation. Of course, the wrens, nuthatches, chickadees, and titmouse love the mealworms we put in it too. Does a very good job of keeping worms dry, and is easy to fill and clean

We have ordered many a bird feeder from Kingsyard and have always been extremely satisfied with their products. To us, the name Kingsyard means quality and durability. This bluebird feeder does not disappoint!
Out of the box, one can’t help but notice the beautiful deep blue color of the feeder. Just as orioles are attracted to the color orange, bluebirds are drawn to blue hues. The base is made of recycled plastic which is more durable than wood. Recycled plastic is also used in many outdoor decking products so you know it will withstand the elements for years to come. Both the domed lid and 2 bowls are made of plastic. I expected glass receptacles, but the plastic cups seem sturdy and thick enough. They are a nice size as well. Smooth sides are necessary if you plan to fill the bowls with live mealworms, as the little grubs will attempt to escape by crawling up and out. A glossy surface will deter them from doing so. The metal rod and hardware are made of stainless steel and feel very solid. We are not concerned about any pieces being bent or broken. My guess is that the bluebirds will probably end up perched on the rims of the plastic bowls to feed rather than on the base. From years of observing these beautiful, gentle birds, this is the position they most often take.
At first, we worried that a dome over the food offering would deter the bluebirds from accessing the feeder. Once put together, we changed our tune as we felt there was sufficient space between the bowls and dome. In the past, we have not had much luck with our bluebirds eating food from domed feeders, but we think the dome is high enough for them to feel safe about using the feeder. Having a cover over the food keeps it from spoiling. Soggy mealworms (alive or dead) is just not appetizing to the blue beauties. If you happen to have an especially volatile storm with strong wind gusts and torrential rains, I do think it would be prudent to check the cups to make sure the worms remained dry.
By the way, minor assembly is required. It took about a minute to put together.
We have had Eastern Bluebirds nesting on our property for years. It is especially fun to watch them feed the nestlings and fledglings. We are looking forward the springtime when the fledged ones join their doting parents on our new Kingsyard bluebird feeder. There is enough room for a whole family to sit on the feeder at one time and sup on the tasty treats.
