I recently picked up a used Epiphone Viola bass, very similar to the Hofner bass Paul McCartney used with the Beatles. The bass came from the factory with roundwound strings, and the first thing almost everyone does is swap out the roundwounds for these La Bella flatwound strings. Specially made for the “Beatle” basses, La Bella makes these strings it this lighter 760FHB2 version or you can get their regular slightly thicker 760FHBB strings. The La Bella website says Paul used these lighter strings. You can also get black nylon tapewound strings that fit as well if you prefer that type of sound. The strings fit the Epiphone Viola perfectly with the E and G strings measuring 40 inches and the A and D strings at 42 inches. Installation was a breeze. The strings are clearly marked with colored ends that fit into the bridge. Once installed, the bass really sounds great and the feel of these strings is just so ultra smooth. The Epiphone bass really shines with these La Bella flatwound strings.

I bought a new Hofner ignition beatle bass. New bass had fret buzz on E string on frets 1&2. Took to guitar tech & had truss rod adjusted & pounded down 2 frets. still had buzz on 1st fret. Suggested try new strings
or would need to get fret dress. Bought these La Bella beatle bass strings and wow! no more fret buzz.
These strings feel great and sound great. Thank you La Bella for making a great quality product.

I put these on a Horner Ignition bass, and wow what a huge difference these make. The sound is phenomenal. If you’re looking to make your bass sound like the vintage basses, these are what you need.

Facile a installer.

Buena calidad.

I recently purchased one of the new (2021) Hofner Ignition PRO Club basses. One of their distinguishing features is that the come stock with flats. Unfortunately the factory flatwounds on this new model left a lot to be desired. The E string was completely dead, and sounded like someone smacking the side of a timpani with a manila folder (no fundamental, lots of weird harmonics). It’s no secret that Hofner flats are usually Pyramids, but in the case of this new budget model, I seem to doubt it.
Having never owned a Hofner before, I researched available options and landed on these. Let me tell you, it was a good choice. The feel of the strings is supple and remind me of the TI’s I have on my precision. The tone is balanced from string to string. They are way easier to intonate than the factory set. Tension on the light set is just about perfect. And most importantly, they sound thick but defined. With the bass solo switch engaged, they thump hard. With the treble solo switch engaged, they can cop a great tic-tac sound. They are incredibly versatile and complement each of the Hofner’s modes very well.

No te arrepentirás.

These strings fit my Hofner Ignition Violin bass. They feel and sound great.
Justin Surratt –
Pros
Smoothest strings ever
Easy to install (comes with instructions)
Hasn’t rusted yet (had it for months now)
Cons
Near the tuning pegs, the strings on top started to let out some sort of string. It’s messy and it leaves dust on the head of the bass.
It sounds okay depending on how you play it. Most times when I play it, it has a fuzz bass sound and less of a Beatle sound to it. However, that all depends on the tone you play it with.
In conclusion, it’s very good and I love it.

At first, I was a little skeptical that these strings would fix some of the issues with my (original) 60’s Beatle Bass. I had been running medium scale, flat-wounds for a while on it, but they didn’t really fit right. They didn’t have the proper taper beyond the nut, so there was a big lump of string around the tuning pegs. This made tuning way too course. My Hofner also had issues with low volume from the D string, and some intonation issues…both of which I never seemed to be able to get rid of. I installed these La Bella strings today. WOW, what an improvement! I could put the D string pick-up pole back down even with the rest, and the string volume is completely consistent now. It was easy to move a couple of the bridge saddles to get the intonation just right all the way up the neck. Couldn’t get there before. The tuning is now MUCH more precise, because these strings have the proper taper up beyond the nut, so the tuning is dramatically improved. I never expected a set of strings would make so much of a difference…but these do. Nice, smooth feel to them as well. Very much the “Sir Paul” sound I like as well. Clearly, the folks at La Bella did their homework on these. Now I’ll probably buy an extra set, since I’ll be playing my Hofner a lot more now. No, this is not a compensated review. I bought my set of strings just like everyone else…never gotten a bass free-bee in my life.

Changed the guitar sound totally. Amazing

I put these on a Rogue vb100, which is a Hofner copy. They fit perfectly, improved the sound and some buzzing without having to do a setup, and they are easier on the fingers to play. I think I’m going to put a set of these flatwounds on my other bass as well, they sound so good.
