This snare is awesome! 8″ deep! It’s super light(supralite), pun intended, but it feels very solid. It’s got a lot of tone for a metal drum, its bright and crisp. I didnt need to, the batter head it comes with sounds great, but I bought an Aquarian High Energy and it damped the ring just right(there wasn’t much to begin with, surprisingly being a deep metal drum.) Its got a great, authoritative crack.

A beautiful classic snare drum. I always loved these Ludwig snares. A great classic instrument at an affordable price.

Okay, so John Bonham played the 6 1/2 x 14 snare, but you get the point!
As you would expect from Ludwig, this is a great product, I bought this to add to my collection of snares I use when playing live, and I was presently surprised.
Fit and finish is excellent. As expected, the heads and snares are Ludwig “entry level”… I suppose because Ludwig understands that most drummers will swap out snares and heads for their own preferences.
I installed a 30 wire “TrueSound” snare, with an Evans EC-3 batter head. First impressions are:
1. the 8″ delivers the classic 80s deep sound, with a thunderous crack
2. the OEM snare wires are not great … opt for an aftermarket snare, 30 or 40 strand
3. tune it to personal taste, which for me and this snare is “mid-range”. Great fat 70s-80s sound
Although this is a steel snare, don’t let it fool you. I own a 6 1/2 x 14 Black Beauty (tuned high), and this is a great snare vs BB ($300 vs. $800). This snare sounds amazing ! But with all snares, it takes time to find the proper heads and snare bed to give it your own personal sound.
Great Product which I highly recommend if you want that big, fat, coliseum sound from the 70s and 80s

This magnificent display of craftsmanship is a glory to behold. I’ve done extensive research on budget snare drums & the recommendations do not disappoint. Sturdy, effective & simple snare throw offs, BEAUTIFUL stainless steel design (you can literally brush your teeth in the reflection 🤩), not to mention the tube lugs blend modern & vintage aesthetics. Don’t let the size fool you.. Although it’s common for deep snares to have a phat, beefy tone akin to most 80s music, you CAN and SHOULD crank this bad boy to the heavens!! These tunings can and will resemble a firecracker! Gospel, hip hop, fusion jazz, etc. In fact, I’d argue at higher tunings, due to more space in the drum for air circulation, it may offer warmer ghost notes in contrast to ear splitting back beats (no seriously, this drum gets l o u d). I’m not a huge fan of long, sustained overtones, so I put a Moongel on it (one is enough, but to each’s own), but you can buy an S Hoop or die cast hoop to dry the tones out a bit. All in all, 10/10 budget snare!!

The heads that cam with the drum were just ok. I replaced the batter with a controlled sound head and the snare side with an ambassador hazy head. Both Remo. Now it meets every expectation.

Received my 14″×8″ Lugwig Snare this afternoon. These evening I put the key to it and gave it a voice, for stock heads sound great. Can’t wait to integrate it in to a kit. Great drum for the price! A+
