BLUF: They’re not strong enough to handle the prying action of changing a tire.
I bought this while under the disillusion of not scratching my wheels while installing bib mousses front/rear on my YZ450FX. *spoiler* I got over that real quick and scratched my wheels. The constant fighting required for a newbie installing mousses for the first time required me to use tire irons furiously to install the mousse. At first I was moving the rim protectors around to where they needed to be, but after a couple of “prys”, they simply split and where useless and became a hindrance more than an asset.
I recommend just getting over scratched rims and get your damn tire on and go ride.

Worked very well to protect my rims while working a tire on and off. They did slip some, but did so slowly enough that I could stop and adjust them. The hard plastic type seem to just pop out suddenly, so these seem preferable.

Eliminates scratches when using tire levers to remove tires from a wheel. These work 10x better and last much longer than what I was using, cut-up pieces of plastic from oil jugs.

The protector was crushed easily by the tire spoon while attempting to remove a typical HARELY DAVIDSON tire from the rim. I would think for lighter applications, dirt bike etc., that this product would be okay.
Lesson learned – some thing are best left to professionals. Take your wheels to the HARLEY dealer. Takes fifteen minute and about $65 to take off the old tire and mount and balance your tire, that is if you provide the tire.

Depending how much access you had to the rim, they could be hard to snap onto the rim. However once they were on they were very secure. One did get beat up pretty good. Overall great purchase.
