Not only is this pedal gorgeous with its all aluminum design, but it is also everything I dreamed it would be. Ever since I saw these pedals when they first came out years ago I’ve wanted one. It’s very smooth and is quite adjustable. It also has something so many pedals lacked for so long: factory setting markers. Adjustable pedals aren’t exactly new but including markers for default settings is something many pedals in the past have sorely lacked. I found the default settings work very well for me so I haven’t really played with them at all. I did, however, switch from short board to long board configuration just out of curiosity and that’s an awesome flexibility to have. This pedal can also be converted to be a double pedal by buying the conversion kit (it’s pretty expensive though and buying them separate doesn’t make it cheaper to get the double but does help to spread out the exorbitant $600 cost). I’ve had this pedal for about 4 months now and am extremely satisfied with it. The beater is is actually a hardened felt type and not a rubber or plastic like I originally thought, which was a nice surprise. It’s also quite light weight as well. It’s not my favorite beater I’ve ever used but it’s better than many that I have used.

I have been playing a single pedal, single chain kick pedal for a long time. I decided to go to a double bass pedal and why not upgrade? The reviews screamed about the Pearl Demon Double Bass. What a fantastic pedal! So smooth. I can play on it like I have all along, but it allows me to expand upon what I already play and it is much more fluid. If you play a chain drive now, stick with the chain and buy this! I passed on the direct drive and am so glad I did. You won’t be disappointed. Instant satisfaction. Pearl hit it out of the park with this one!

Perfect combination of speed, feel and power. I tried Tama speed cobras, I just couldn’t dial them in to my liking, they do have plenty of power though. With these Pearl pedals it took minutes of tweaking and they’re perfect. I changed them to long boards for heel-toe. These are an extension of your feet the same way drum sticks are for your hands. These trade a small amount of speed for more power over the direct drive version. You will destroy lesser drum heads if you are a heavier hitter.

Far easier to adjust than all other pedals I’ve tried, and the footboard options are unspeakable. Of course, the pedal performs smoothly and very attractively to my feet – YMMV. You will probably want different beaters and I wish they included a strap option to swap with the chain, but it’s much nicer than the (pre-2016) Iron Cobra and (pre-2013) DW 9000 double pedals I owned previously. One thing you’ll very probably want is some sort of spikes for the sub pedal – unfortunately oversight for such a well-considered pedal.

IMHO this is the Best, most articulate, easy to adjust and a pleasure to play pedal of anything I’ve ever tried up to this day in my over 40 years of playing. Amongst the pedals I’ve owned are: top of the line offerings from Tama, Ludwig, dw, Yamaha and Camco. The Pearl demon tops them all.

I’ve owned a few pedals over the years:
    – Camco chain drive
    – Axis ‘A’
    – Yamaha 850
    – DW 5000
    – Tama Iron Cobra

While these were very good pedals they always lacked the control and smoothness
I was looking for. I’m a heel toe player and my technique never seemed to “lock into” these pedals.
When I found myself changing my technique to accommodate the pedal, I’d move onto another.

I wasn’t even shopping for a new pedal when I came across the Pearl Demon in a music store.
However, I was frustrated with the Iron Cobra. I really liked the Demon after I had adjusted it.
But, when I switched it to the long board position it was like the heavens opened the choir of angels
    sang ;-).

Let’s put it this way, I’m not a double bass player and I bought two! The one at the store and then
the one I found on Amazon. They are very expensive and worth every penny. However, look around.
Both of mine were open box or floor models. I saved just about $100 on each.
Now I have one on my practice kit and one that stays packed up with the gig kit.

However, seeing how personal pedals are, play one first you may just fall in love with a Demon!
