This machine work very well on carpet as recommended in the Amazon description. Rugs get pulled up by the roller straining the mechanism. Setting the roller height per the instructions still allows lighter rugs to be pulled up. There is plenty of suction to pick up pretty much everything.
The only downside to this vacuum cleaner is the thin plastic and stamped parts that give it a cheap feel. Speaking of cheap, if you use it as intended on carpet, it appears to be well worth the money.

This vacuum is designed to do only one thing: vacuum carpets. It has no “attachments”, no special filters, and uses an old fashioned design – and it totally blows away the junk vacuums from Hoover and Bissell coming out of China these days. I have had those, and they are garbage which are full of “features” and break within a year. This Sanitaire only cleans the carpet, but it does an excellent job! And this is not a vacuum designed to be discarded – every piece on this machine can be replaced, and the parts are not expensive. It’s designed for the owner to keep for many years. Also, it is extremely simple to assemble and use. The light weight and simple operation are much appreciated. It has a clean out bag, which can be changed out for disposable bags if desired. Rolls very easily across the floor. It also has the sturdiest power cord I have seen in decades; made to last! After seeing how good this product is by Sanitarie, I think I will try one of their cannister models soon to handle all the other vacuuming needs, such as floor edges and furniture. This company totally blows the Chinese made junk vacuums out of the water, and for the same price.

I LOVE this vacuum! Very effective at cleaning all types of rugs. The knob on it can be switched between 1-6 levels (6 being the thickest rug). However, the written directions in the manual are not the clearest. Just look up a video on youtube when putting the vacuum together. It’s not that hard, once you see it done.

SC679K is a great vacuum. it works really well, suction is powerful. Parts are cheap and readily available to fix anything that goes bad or wears out on these vacs. Lot’s of YouTube videos on these things, everything from assembly to replacing motors and on and on……. These are not the Wal-Mart throw away Bissel Vacs and the like which you buy , use , break or wear out and then put in the dumpster after 3years. You can literally buy EVERY piece of one of these 679 Series Sanitaire Vacs part by part. I challenge you to look up parts for them cheap Sharks, Bissels, All Plastic Hoovers etc…..To sum it up these things work, they work well, they have been around for 30 plus years and there’s a reason for that. Do some research to confirm my info. don’t keep buying those cheaply built un fixable plastic vacuums. By one of these and fix it as you go instead of buying and trashing every 3 to 5 years.You can go Bagless as this one comes with the shake out bag OR do what I did and by the zippered red cloth conversion bag that takes paper F&G Bags. Hope this helps some of you.

So, my 15+plus year Eureka Complete Clean was no longer working. It had a torn hose and Eureka doesn’t make them anymore. I only loved it due to the heavy duty suction and leaving ‘great’ lines in carpet. I wanted a new canister but was unable to find one with a power roller/brush I bought a Bissell something upright, broke on first use, returned. So, I was once again searching for a vacuum. I find this one for 150.00…it has metal wands, metal bottom, a power roller/brush (not self propelled but…) I decided to try this. It arrived within 2 days, it was easy to put together. I have vacuumed my entire house. I have small home and only needed to unplug once and move to another socket once, so the cord is super long for me. I must say, I am impressed. Now, I can’t see how much is sucked up into bag, I will definitely check. I was able to vacuum all area rugs on ‘1’ setting btw. So far, so good. Well worth the money.. I have literally had it less than an hour.
