My Hubby was first exposed to the Moog Synthesizer in the late 1960’s, before Switched on Bach and Keith Emerson. He absolutely loved this book and as a Moog devotee learned something new every evening as he plunged deeper into this incredibly well written biography. Hubby’s funniest comment was – ‘the list of people that helped to contribute to the books contents are larger than the crew ELP had during their infamous 1977 world tour’. Bravo to Mr Glinsky for taking this on and driving it to completion.

I’ve been fascinated with synthesizers and electronic music since the late 60’s. The Moog was an instrument of many of my musical heroes, so this book has been an excellent read. It’s well written and a real page turner! Included are lots of interesting photos. I highly recommend it!

I knew Bob was a terrible businessman , who got screwed my many people, but I had no idea how bad it was.
I got to see Bob at the Namn show , just before he got diagnosed with brain tumor. I related the story in the book , about my first meeting with him. I was terribly embarrassed and apologized profusely but I told him I found the event to be very funny. That was the last time I saw him

Premetto che il libro è scritto in inglese, ma è descritto così bene che sembra di essere lì accanto a Robert Moog nell’arco della sua vita, quando da ragazzino cresceva imparando i rudimenti di elettronica dal padre ingegnere, e poi successivamente quando inizia la sua avventura di imprenditore inventando il sintetizzatore modulare analogico. Da lì in poi, dopo varie disavventure e cambi di proprietà del marchio Moog, finalmente riesce a riacquisire il possesso del marchio continuando con la sua enorme inventiva l’evoluzione degli ultimi modelli da lui progettati. Insomma, Bob Moog ha rivoluzionato la musica elettronica offrendo nuovi scenari sonori ai musicisti di tutto il mondo!

I have not yet finished the book but i m enjoying it. It is not only the story of Robert Moog but also the early years of the synthesizer revolution. Becoming the most recognizable name in synthesis was not an easy task and required years of struggle and uncertainty. the book is well written and researched while still being a good read.

As someone who was captivated by the sound of a Minimoog at a live gig, I managed to acquire the synth some years after and now with great regret, was one of those I also sold some time later, the book was a great insight into Bob Moog, the constant battle to fund his developments at the same time as seeing others profiting from his inventions. The impact on his family and his passing at the end were very moving but he will forever be a legend.

Albert Glinsky, who previously authored, “Theremin, Ether Music and Espionage,” (2000) has produced another fine biography, this time of Robert Moog, pioneer of the Synthesizer. Glinsky, composer and Professor, knew Moog personally in his last years and had full access to his family and archives. This full biography covers the formative years of experimentation in electronic music, the sixties and seventies, which will be remembered by older readers, and into the broad use of the Moog Synthesizer in television, popular and switched-on classical music into the 2000’s. Moog’s personal life, marriages and financial upheavals are a good read and certainly emblematic of the American experience. His life was a continuing drama. Great photos too. Highly recommended.
