Alright, it doesn’t taste fabulous, but if you mix it with fruit and a sweetener (I use stevia powder) in a blender it’s just fine. The price is excellent though, which is my main concern, since I’m not willing to spend a dollar or more per serving for a high end protein powder.

My only concern is that it (and supposedly all other brown rice powder) comes from China, where the organic standards often are not met, despite the USDA Organic label. Peter Whoriskey had an article a couple of years back, “The labels said ‘organic.’ But these massive imports of corn and soybeans weren’t” (Washington Post). Although the article did not discuss brown rice, it did discuss crops being grown organically in China which were nonetheless contaminated with pesticides by the polluted water supply used by the growers. So we really can’t know if anything from China is really organic or not.

I’ve tried all types of protein powder and i this one was my least favorite. It’s so powdery that it’s like dust, and the dust flies all over when scooping it. It has a bitter aftertaste. Can’t return it. Thumbs down all around.

The taste is wonderfully delicate. Rice, but faintly earthy, with very slight hints of fresh green. It doesn’t have that chalky, dusty taste common to pea protein powder. Nor does it have that sour note common to soy protein isolates.

Excellent for soups, sauces, mains, baking, desserts, and especially hot coffee/tea. Makes a lovely coffee/tea creamer. (Fewer calories, more protein, richer texture than collagen creamer) I also like it in crustless quiche and homemade seitan chikn.

This was my first time buying a terrasoul product. Never heard of them. The quality is surprisingly superior to the well-known vegan brand of sprouted protein powder.

The terrasoul brand is finely milled. It’s airy. That’s significantly important to achieving a clump-free homogeneous mixture using only a spoon. Smooth, non-gritty mouth feel. No sediment layer sunk to the bottom of the cup (I’m looking directly at you, Hemp powder!)

Some people love using blenders, mixers, jackhammers, and shakers. They want a powder that demands effort. Some of us need a quiet cup of coffee that isn’t greedy for attention first thing in the morning. I’m not trying to roleplay a lumberyard sim in my own kitchen predawn.

When a company takes care with the milling process, the powder incorporates easily- no muss, no fuss, no heavy machinery. I appreciate the heck outta that.

The package is tough and ships fully sealed. No leakage issues. Sometimes those big plastic protein powder barrels get cracked in transit and explode all over. This package is a washable/reusable zip bag that is durable enough to be reincarnated as an excellent freezer bag.

I bought this as a vegan alternative for what had been my go-to protein powder, unflavored whey protein isolate.

Pros: low- FODMAP diet friendly! Has a mild inoffensive taste imo, somewhat reminiscent of raw flour both is smell and flavor. Finely-milled. Mixes into food pretty easily (oatmeal, other hot cereal)- as in it doesn’t alter the taste much and doesn’t have a super granular mouth feel in food. Has a similar nutritional profile for grams of protein per gram of powder and calories per gram protein when compared to Isopure whey protein isolate; See comparison below*

Cons: Doesn’t really dissolve so well, per se. I’ve used this with an almond milk base, 1-2 Tbsp (serv size= 1 Tbsp) in 16oz cold milk. Vigorous shaking in my Blender Bottle makes this drinkable, but you’ll need to shake it repeatedly while consuming to homogenize the mix again, as the powder tends to settle in the bottle. I add unsweetened TJ’s PB powder, cocoa powder and monk fruit sugar in the raw to mine; be aware you will still taste the powder in it. The country of origin is China.

*Comparison to Whey Protein Isolate, calculated by nutrition facts on products and standard volume conversions, with rounding:
    This Brown Rice Protein:
40 calories and 8g protein per serving size
    of 1 Tbsp (10g weight)
Therefore it has 1.25g protein per 1 gram of powder and is 5 calories per gram of protein provided.

    Isopure (Unflavored) Whey Protein Isolate
This is 100 calories and 25g protein per serving size of “1 scoop” (29 g weight).
The scoop volume is 70 cc (labeled on scoop).
To make it easier to compare volumes, this is 4.7 Tbsp per serving (per scoop).
This has 5.3g protein per Tbsp, 1.16g protein per 1 gram of powder and 4 calories per 1g protein.

The differences between the two products in grams of protein per gram of powder is minimal, as is the calories per gram protein. The Brown Rice does have more grams of protein per unit volume (8 gram protein per Tbsp vs 5.3 g for whey), 33% difference.

If you’re switching protein sources to get away from using dairy, or you hate the taste of whey protein… this might be a fair option because of the similar values. But be forewarned that you’ll need to doctor-up your shakes more to get the powder to be drinkable. Because of it’s characteristics, I’d suggest using it in smoothies, foods and baked goods rather than minimalist liquid shakes.

It’s nothing that special, but that’s what I need. Terrasoul responded quickly with testing results when I emailed them. They test for bacterial contamination, arsenic, lead, melamine, and a few other things, and this powder is well below the recommended limits for all of them (most of them are 10-100x below the limit). It’s relatively tasteless and blends up just fine, a little chalky, but that’s ok with me and I don’t think there are any vegan protein powders that don’t taste a little bit chalky.
