Bought one for my grandson’s birthday and his sister wanted it so needed another and found on Amazon. I put some bling on the rod so they could see who owned it!! Perfect fit for both. 6 & 7 year olds.

Got both of my nephews the fishing poles for Christmas. They are ugly sticks and known for extreme durability. That is exactly what these boys need. Also our local Sportsman’s Warehouse will swap them out no questions asked. Slam it in the car door drive it over with the truck if it does break it still warranty !

This is the second pole we bought. Very disappointed this time! Looked like it had sat in a garage & been walked & possibly even driven over. Packaging was dirty, broken & even had a couple smashed dead bugs in the side of it! Shame on me for assuming it would be fine & not opening the box ahead of the birthday to check. So it was grandson’s birthday party day, when grandpa always gives them their first fishing pole. We always give good Ugly Stiks & were really happy when we found these junior sets instead of what we put together, in the past. Not very happy today!! He took the pole, after we wiped it up, the best we could. If the rod is broken it will come home with him! But what a horrible looking gift! Not sure I’ll order another 1 of these again, even though the first 1 was perfect.
Additional note: Rod tip was broken. Whole set up had to be returned through Amazon for credit, so just kept that pole & new pole. In the end we were glad we did because the reel broke on our other granddaughters her second time out this spring. Rods are nice, reels are cheaply made! We fixed her reel with the reel off the broken pole. NO MORE UGLY STICK JR COMBOS FOR OUR GRANDKIDS! We will go back to the short, lightweight regular ugly stick & put a good quality enclosed reel on it for them to learn with!

This is a very nice all fiberglass rod with solid fiberglass tip. It is very tough and difficult to break. The reel is made of plastic but has metal gears and a decent star drag system. The system casts well and has held up to many casts. When you first receive the reel the drag is completely backed off and the gears will not engage. Just tighten the star drag next to the crank handle and all will be fine. I believe many of the negative reviews about the gears not engaging are from individuals who do not understand how this drag system works. I plan to purchase two more of these for each of my young grandchildren.

This fishing rod was just what my grandson wanted for his 5 th birthday. It’s just the right size and very easy for him and his brother to learn on, yup we have to order another one or two! Great rod for children!

I ordered this for my 4 year old nephews birthday. It is the perfect size for him. I could not find any poles in the store for kids besides those cheap cartoon character poles. When we took it out and tried it, the reel was not working, was not reeling the line in. I knew from previous reviews that the reel was kind of cheap and other buyers had problems with it. I exchanged it and the new one works fine. I did also contact the manufacturer about it just in case the replacement pole has the same problem. The manufacturer just asked me to send a picture of the pole and reel and a picture or my receipt as proof of purchase. They also sent me a new reel. It’s not the same one that came on this pole since that reel is only sold with the pole in this combo. The reel they sent was another spin case reel and seems to be better quality. The pole is great but you may have a problem with the reel. I am happy that I purchased it and happy that I was able to get the replacements

If it was just the rod it would get 5 stars. Ugly stick has always made a quality rod. Perfect size for my 4.5 year old son. The reel it came with is junk. Tore it apart to find out that the insides were broken. Glad I followed the advice of others and bought the zebco 202 reel. Perfect combination.

I give this a 2 only because the rod seems decent. I bought 2 of these for my sons. The reels are terrible. What a waste of money and resources making them. Neither would spool out when casting. They would get caught up inside. So I put heavier spoons on to get the weight of the lure to pull line. That worked for a while. Anytime we caught fish the line snapped so I put new line on both reels. Then these reels seemed to cast better and the line didn’t break however they birdsnest inside every 5th cast or so. Finally had enough of taking these apart and replaced them with open face reels. My boys asked me as we were tossing them in the garbage. “Don’t you feel bad throwing those away?” I said “Yes but I will feel much better not having to deal with all the issues they cause us out on the lake”.
