Amazon Customer –
Great strings! The E-string is beautiful! It plays without screeching; I can say honestly that when I changed the strings, my violin became a different instrument. My luthier had previously strung my violin with (in my opinion lesser quality) Artiste strings and I was always uncomfortable with the tone I had to press hard on the strings to get the correct note for some reason and my fingers were always a mess after practice. I hated to play any piece with the higher A and E string notes. I didn’t know why. Now I know: strings make a huge difference. Now I play the higher notes on the E and A strings and it sounds so beautiful to me. I don’t press the strings hard at all. I cannot wait to pick up my violin and play; it just feels like silk to me. I feel like I went from wearing a cheap zinc necklace to an elegant gold piece of jewelry.
The strings were sent by the vendor very quickly in great packaging. Excellent price.

Have used Dominant strings on my violin for decades. They wear well, hold tone for years.

Exactly what my teacher told me to get, great deal for getting the 4 strings!

This is a good set of strings to put on just about any type of violin. I have a 200+-year-old German fiddle and a 25-year-old American fiddle and Dominants with a Gold E work well on both of them. My only complaint about Dominants is that they’re very raw/brassy/harsh sounding when they first go on. It takes a good amount of playing to get them to mellow out, but when they do, they sound great and last a good amount of time. My German fiddle is slightly smaller than a standard 4/4 instrument and is a little quieter than my American fiddle. Dominants help boost the volume quite a bit compared to some other types of strings that I’ve tried.

Adquirà este set de cuerdas considerando que la primera cuerda serÃa en oro. No fue asÃ, solo es la marca de la cuerda. Me des ilusionó que no fuera oro.

I’m a violinist with several years of experience and I would say my skill level is at the lower half of intermediate. I play in a community orchestra and usually practice about 1-2 hours per day. My violin is a Knilling Bucharest. I decided to buy the Dominant and Pirastro strings and see what all the hype was about. I replaced my D’addario Prelude strings and so they are my point of reference for comparison. I only had two problems installing the new strings. One was that the yarn near the ball end of the D string was thick and difficult to wedge into the fine tuner slit on the tailpiece. I suggest you use something soft to press it down such as your fingernail, and place your thumb between the tailpiece and the violin to take up the pressure you are forcing down on the string, have patience and keep at it. The other problem I had is violin specific. The E string comes with a “loop end” and my violin is setup with four “ball end” fine tuners on the tailpiece. I’m sure there are other solutions but this is how I solved it and it worked well for me. First I removed the ball from my old E string. I then threaded the ball onto a small punch tool so that I could hold it still. Next I warmed the loop end of the new E string with a heat gun and worked it over and onto the ball. Now I had a new ball end E string that installed normally on my violin. The gauge of the Dominants was thicker then the Preludes and the Pirastro E was thinner then the Prelude E.
The new strings play louder and they took tuning well. They initially stretched a little bit but that is normal for newly installed strings. I noticed an immediate improvement in tone and the Dominants are very mellow. The Dominants played a trick on my ear and I pulled out my electric tuner again just to make sure I wasn’t playing flat; they had reduced the bright metallic tone but were on the mark as far as tune, I like the deep richer sound and had to acclimate my ear to it. The Pirastro E sounds like the Prelude only better! The sound is alive leaping off this string, bright and sweet, very responsive. If you prefer the sound of metal strings I would recommend going with a set of Pirastro. All in all I’m very happy with this string set, they gave my instrument a deep and stylish, thicker sound and augment the various play styles that the orchestra pieces require. I appreciate the package’s value in that it cost much less then going into a local store and I didn’t have to buy the strings individually or not use part of a set to mix and match. They also arrived a day early! Best bang for your buck to improve your sound, well aside from practice of course!

These are really good strings. Sound quality is pretty good as well. Haven’t played in years and went to open up my violin to play and wound up having to completely re-string my violin and re-hair my bow as they’d both just completely fallen apart. I did my bow yesterday which I’m glad I did myself. Got these in today and excitedly went to re-string my violin. Only problem, the E string didn’t come with the bit at the end to hold it in place where the fine tuners are. I had to spend an hour removing one from my old E string and getting it into the new one so it would stay. That’s the only reason I’m not giving a full 5 out of 5 stars. After I finally got it fixed it took no time at all to re-string it all and get it nice and tuned.

The strings that my violin came with were pretty standard but I didn’t like the way that the A and E strings sounded more… what’s the word? Twangy? You could definitely tell when I was playing on those strings, so I decided to purchase these after reading some reviews, and boy am I glad I did.
$50 is a little pricey but so worth it. As soon as I head the warm, rich sound that these strings made, I knew I made the right decision. One thing to keep in mind, is that the E string can be either a ball or loop end and in this case, my violin was supposed to use a ball end but I didn’t read it right and this pack comes with a loop end.
No biggie though, you just secure it over where the ball is supposed to go and voila. It won’t sit in there like it was meant to be there but it absolutely works, and mine hasn’t moved an inch since I restringed it.
In conclusion, these strings are absolutely amazing and make a beautiful sound, and if that’s what you’re going for, then I’d definitely get these.

I love this set up! Since researching one of Hilary Hahn’s (huge fan here) main strings combo I thought it was super awesome that there was already a set put together right here on amazon. Great depths on the G and the E projects very nicely!

Hi, I love the strings, but this is the second time my D string is defective. It’s not responding right away and has some funny sounds.Could you please send me a replacement string? I could send you the one that is not working back…
